The Mumbai police have issued a Look Out Circular (LoC) against Mihir Shah, the son of a leader of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena who allegedly mowed down a woman in Worli while driving a BMW on Sunday morning.

A senior police officer confirmed to The Indian Express that a LoC has been issued against Mihir suspecting he could flee the country to save himself from the arrest. Once a LoC is issued against an accused or suspect they cannot travel out of the country from airports or ports. If the person still tries to escape then immigration personnel can detain them and hand them over to the law enforcement agency concerned.

At 5.25 am on Sunday, Mihir, 24, allegedly rammed into a two-wheeler on which the woman and her husband were travelling on the Dr Annie Besant Road in Worli. Due to the impact, Kaveri and Pradeep Nakhwa were flung in the air and fell on the bonnet of Mihir’s BMW car. While Pradeep managed to jump off the car, Kaveri, 45, could not and Mihir Shah allegedly dragged her on the vehicle’s bonnet for nearly 2 kilometres up to Bandra Worli Sea Link entry point (from the Worli side).

Later, Mihir Shah drove his car to the Kalanagar area of Bandra (East), where he abandoned it and asked the driver Rajrishi Bidawat, who was inside the vehicle during the accident, to also run.

Kaveri was found on the roadside by the police in a seriously injured state and was rushed to the Nair Hospital in Agripada where she was declared dead. On the complaint of Pradeep Nakhwa, who also sustained an injury on his leg, the Worli police booked Shah.

Festive offer

It has been alleged that Mihir consumed alcohol at a bar in Juhu during a party. The Mumbai police have collected footage from the bar’s CCTV and those from multiple CCTV cameras capturing the accident.

After a day-long inquiry, the police on Sunday evening arrested Shah’s father Rajesh Shah and Bidawat on charges of helping the accused flee and causing the disappearance of evidence of offence. The police would produce them at the Bhoiwada court on Monday morning and seek their custody for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, six police teams have been looking for the absconding accused Mihir, who has been booked on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder among others.
