Unearthing Shivaji Park’s urban legacy

Did you know that Shivaji Park was initially called Mahim Park but was renamed in 1927 to commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj? Avid Learning has launched a new series called “Uncovering Urban Legacies: Stories of Bombay’s Precincts.” The inaugural session will feature a distinguished panel, including Sangeet Natak Akademi and Sahitya Akademi awardee Shanta Gokhale, visual artist Kaamna Patel, and chef-restaurateur Aditi Limaye Kamat, who will explore Shivaji Park’s history and its ongoing influence on the city’s identity.

AF Bombay x Wench Film Festival

Alliance Française de Bombay, in partnership with the Wench Film Festival, presents Cinéma de l’Étrange. Spread throughout the month of July, this week presents Georges Franju’s Les yeux sans visage (Eyes Without a Face). This week features the story of Dr. Génessier, whose daughter Christiane is disfigured in an accident. Driven by guilt, he kidnaps young women to remove their faces in an attempt to graft them onto his daughter. This event is free and open to all.
