Journalist dies in road mishap, truck driver held

A speeding truck knocked down a journalist crossing the road at Tathawade on Mumbai Bangalore highway in Pimpri Chinchwad, Sunday night.

Police said the deceased Sharad Vasant Gaikwad was a resident of Chinchwad, and worked for the ‘Live 24 Bulletin’ in the Pimpri Chinchwad.

Police said Gaikwad was on his way to receive his wife, when while he was crossing the road near Decathlon in Tathawade around 10 pm, a truck coming from the Mumbai side mowed him down.

Pimpri Chinchwad police team rushed to the spot, and lodged an offence against the truck driver at Hinjewadi police station.

Senior police inspector Kanhaiya Thorat said, “We have arrested the truck driver Sadiq Ismail Basha and ate investigating further.”
