Though netizens have been praising Nita Ambani's choice of sari, it was her choice of traditional jewellery, which took our fancy.

Nita Ambani, amidst the whirlwind of preparations for her son Anant Ambani’s upcoming wedding on July 12, took time to host a heartwarming mass wedding ceremony (samuhik vivah) for 50 couples on Tuesday. The ceremony, held at the Reliance Corporate Park, was part of the pre-wedding celebrations for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant.

Nita, known for her impeccable style, stole the show at the event. She donned a stunning red silk Benarasi sari adorned with intricate gold zari work and bird motifs. While the ensemble was already captivating, the true focal point emerged when she revealed the pallu (flowing end) – as it featured the sacred Gayatri Mantra embroidered in gold. Though netizens have been praising her choice of sari, it was her choice of traditional jewellery, which took our fancy.

Nita’s jewellery choices further complemented her elegant yet traditional attire. The Reliance Foundation chairperson seemed to be wearing a Guttapusalu necklace with her outfit, a traditional South Indian design from Andhra Pradesh, according to Anshika Agarwal, Associate Professor, School of Fashion, World University of Design, Sonipat.

The name “Guttapusalu” comes from the Telugu words “Gutta” meaning shoal of small fish and “Pusalu” meaning beads, their intricate design featuring strings of tiny pearls meticulously arranged to resemble a school of fish swimming together, explained Professor Agarwal.

The exact origin date of the Guttapusalu necklace is difficult to pinpoint, but it is believed to have emerged several centuries ago during the period of the Vijayanagara Empire (14th to 17th century). The necklace has been a part of Andhra Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage for centuries, often associated with the region’s royal families and affluent classes, Agarwal added.

Festive offer

The Guttapusalu is still a part of the regional lexicon in Andhra Pradesh, worn at weddings and religious ceremonies.

The statement earrings that Nita wore featured tiny paintings of Lord Krishna, echoing the theme of faith and celebration.

The ceremony saw the whole Ambani family in attendance. Mukesh Ambani, Akash Ambani with wife Shloka Mehta, Isha Ambani Piramal with husband Anand Piramal, all joined Nita in celebrating this special occasion. Isha opted for a suit by designer duo Rimple and Harpreet, while Shloka chose a creation by designer Mayyur Girotra, further adding to the vibrant occasion.
