With the onset of the monsoon, several districts of Uttar Pradesh have been receiving heavy rainfall. Many parts of the state are hit by water-logged roads and flood-like situations. A new video has caught the Internet’s attention wherein a newly-built road in Muzaffarnagar district caved in due to canal water.
The viral video begins with a man filming the road. Three men are seen standing at a distance. In the blink of an eye, the road caves in creating a giant sinkhole. Moments later, the strong canal water flow creates a division as it breaks the entire road. “Bhai shaab! Picche hatt jao (Oh brother! Stay away),” a man can be heard warning commuters.
Sharing the video, journalist Sachin Gupta wrote, “This live video of the road collapse is from Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The canal water has filled the fields. A lot of crops of the farmers have been destroyed.”

Shared on July 6, the video amassed over 1,07,000 views. Several social media users slammed the authorities for risking the lives of the villagers. Reacting to the video, a user wrote, “The reason behind this flooding is that after independence, no arrangement for drainage of rain water has been made by any government. On the contrary, the system of rain water drainage from the British rule has been destroyed. Sometimes it is by encroachment by people and sometimes by unplanned government construction.” Another user wrote, “A unique example has been set by building a canal in the middle of the road.”
“This contractor should be awarded. He has not laid the pipe under the road. He has just made it like that,” a third user reacted.
Meanwhile, in Bihar, as many as 15 engineers were suspended on Friday after a total of 12 bridges collapsed in different districts of the state due to heavy rain.
