Overview

LA Dodgers Hololive Night refers to the special event in which the Los Angeles Dodgers Major League Baseball team had special merchandise, handouts and an on-field drone performance celebrating Hololive and the VTuber characters Gawr Gura, Pekora and Hoshimachi SuiSei in early July 2024. Fans of Hololive appeared in droves, with many different images and videos being shared of the event, causing it to trend online as it garnered notable discourse.

Background

In May 2024, fans began posting about the event online and the ticket packages available, as well as creating a long queue while trying to obtain tickets. For example, on May 31st, 2024, X / Twitter user @AndyCollectz[1] posted about the collab and him being in the waiting room, receiving over 24,000 views and 80 likes in one month (shown below).

On July 5th, 2024, the Los Angeles Dodgers MLB team hosted a Hololive night in which fans were able to take pictures with cardboard cut-outs of the three Hololive characters, as well as buy specialized merchandise and receive baseball cards that were made of the characters, denoting their stats as saying which part of the organization generation they were in.



Online Reactions

On the day of the event, July 5th, 2024, fans in attendance quickly shared their experiences and pictures upon showing up and seeing how crowded the event was. For example, on July 5th, X user @krispyy_kay[2] uploaded a video to their X account while captioning it to explain that the line for merchandise was over roughly 100 people long within 40 minutes after the gates had opened (shown below). The post garnered over 77,000 views and 1,600 likes in three days.


Near the end of the game, during the seventh inning stretch, the screen was taken over by Gawr Gura, who proceeded to sing the baseball tradition of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" to everyone in attendance. On July 5th, this rendition was uploaded to X by user @gohyakuengyudon,[3] who captioned the video saying that fans in attendance were very loud (shown below).


After the game ended, the fans who bought the special Hololive ticket package were allowed to go out onto the field and watch a drone show featuring the different logos of the Hololive characters, as well as different effects. On July 6th, 2024, YouTuber and Hololive fan mozowo[4] uploaded their view of the drone show from home plate, showing a large crowd gathered on the baseball diamond waving their Dodgers brand penlights (shown below). The upload received over 18,000 views and 1,400 likes in two days.
