Today, the 6th Edition of the World Heritage Site Managers' Forum #WHSMF24 Kicked Off in New Delhi!   This year, the Forum focuses on #heritage and #communities, recognizing the need for effective and inclusive approaches to World Heritage management and putting people at the heart of our work. "Over the years, the WHSMF has become a key global networking event for site managers and representatives of hundreds of natural, cultural, and mixed World Heritage properties. Conservation and management of heritage is primarily, and most importantly, about working with people. We are happy to share the success of the 21st International Course on Wood Conservation Technology #ICWCT2024. This biennial event continues to set the standard for excellence in heritage conservation, bringing together 21 passionate professionals from 19 countries for an enriching hybrid programme. The course offered a comprehensive blend of theoretical and practical training in wood conservation for both objects and buildings. Participants engage in lectures, practical tasks, demonstrations, and site visits across Norway. Key topics include conservation principles, preventive measures, and material knowledge. The course also provides a valuable opportunity for participants to exchange experiences across borders, enriching the learning experience. The #ICWCT2024 has once again demonstrated the power of international collaboration in preserving our wooden cultural heritage. The international #SummerSchool 2024 on "Saving energy for cultural heritage institutions," co-organized in partnership with the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) in Belgium, KU Leuven, University of Liège, and ORIGIN ARCHITECTURE & ENGINEERING, has concluded successfully. Interdisciplinary teams of collections and facility management professionals from Belgium, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland came together for two weeks in Brussels to explore the multifaceted technical and human aspects of energy reduction and change management in heritage organizations.    This capacity-building initiative was based on KIK-IRPA's Climate2Preserv (C2P) project. In addition to the new knowledge and skills gained through expert lectures, study visits, and participatory teamwork activities, the Summer School participants started using the C2P protocol and innovative prototype tools to explore meaningful ways to measure, communicate, model, and ultimately reduce energy consumption in their own institutions. As a follow-up activity, they will continue to work on their respective projects. On 11 July 2024, ICCROM Director-General, Aruna G., met with H.E. Yerbolat Sembayev, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Italy, to discuss how ICCROM can support Kazakhstan in preserving and managing its cultural heritage through membership to our Organization. The conversation explored the support ICCROM can provide on the ground for sites, collections, as well as intangible heritage through its capacity building. This includes regional and language-specific training, as well as technical and management assistance tailored to Kazakhstan's unique needs. Both parties expressed enthusiasm for future collaboration. On 9 July 2024, a significant step was taken towards enhancing the representation of Africa's rich heritage on the UNESCO World Heritage List. ICCROM and Fondazione Scuola dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the project "World Heritage in Africa – Fostering Practitioners for Nomination Processes and Strategies". This MoU marks a new chapter in the long-standing relationship between ICCROM and Fondazione, both of which have a history of successful collaboration in heritage management and education. This partnership has consistently aimed to enhance the capacities of heritage professionals, with a special focus on Africa. We look forward to strengthening the professional capacities of heritage practitioners in Africa, contributing to the conservation and recognition of the continent's invaluable heritage. Yesterday, I attended the workshop “Managing #Urban #Heritage for Sustainable Development in World Heritage Context” in Bamberg (Germany) with my AGREE colleagues, Mesut Dinler as well as Paloma Guzman and Ole Fredrik Unhammer (online). Organised by ICCROM and the World Heritage Office Bamberg (thank you! 🙏 ), and bringing together #academics and World Heritage #site #managers based in various institutions across Europe, the workshop stimulated a fruitful 🌱 conversation on how to improve current urban heritage #governance, #management systems, and World Heritage management plans. We also reflected on how to develop an #integrated #framework for World Heritage management in an urban context. It has also been a moment to think about the next steps, possible #partnerships, and ongoing and future synergies. I've had a few very intense days travelling and juggling multiple commitments, but I feel completely re-energised now ✨ and ready to take on the challenge of contributing to #transformative urban heritage governance.
