Udit Narayan made the makers of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Mahi’ wait for ‘Dekha Tenu’ for four months due to miscommunication: ‘I made a mistake’

Singer Udit Narayan revealed he was approached to sing 'Dekha Tenu' for 'Mr. & Mrs. Mahi.' The new track features popular lines from the iconic song 'Shava Shava' from 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham,' originally sung by Udit Narayan, as the chorus, while maestro Jaani penned the lyrics for the rest of the recreated version.
In an exclusive chat with News18.com, Udit confessed he was asked to sing the recreation but put the offer on hold for four months.
The singer admitted that he didn't know the song was being recreated for a film produced by Karan Johar.
'Dekha Tenu' was released earlier this month, featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, with Mohammad Faiz as the singer. Udit Narayan admitted that it was his mistake, acknowledging that the producers had approached him to sing the song and waited for four months for his response. He explained that there was a miscommunication, which led to his delay in committing to the 'Mr & Mrs Mahi' track.
Udit Narayan recounted that he was informed the song was being recreated for a Rajkummar Rao film. He emphasized that the misunderstanding arose because the person who contacted him failed to clarify that they intended to recreate the same song he had previously sung. Moreover, they neglected to mention it was for a Karan Johar film. Narayan assumed it was a new composer undertaking the recreation and admitted to not giving it sufficient attention. He candidly acknowledged his mistake, stating there was confusion, and even he was unaware. However, he recalled that they patiently waited for him and expressed a desire for him to participate in the song. Narayan concluded by stating that if he had received a clear explanation, he would not have hesitated to accept the offer.

Udit Narayan conveyed that although there was a lack of clear communication, he expressed his contentment that a new singer had been given the chance to perform the track. He mentioned, “Communication sahi nahi mila, but koi baat nahi, a new singer has sung the song and I send him my good wishes."
Udit Narayan has lent his voice to recreations of his original songs. His repertoire includes iconic recreations such as 'Cheez Badi' from 'Machine,' 'Sabse Aage Honge Hindustani' from 'Street Dancer 3D,' and 'Tip Tip Barsa Paani' from 'Sooryavanshi.'
Additionally, he has contributed to recreations like 'Main Khiladi Tu Anari 2.O' from 'Selfie,' 'Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava' and 'Main Nikla Gaddi Leke' from 'Gadar 2,' and 'Papa Kehte Hain' from 'Srikanth.' Throughout his career, Udit has collaborated with various musicians to recreate the magic of his original songs.
When queried about any regrets concerning missing the opportunity, Udit admitted to feeling a sense of regret. He mentioned, “On one side, I am feeling bad but on the other, I am also happy that a new singer got an opportunity to sing," he said. Detailing his answer, Udit said, “I am a workaholic. I thought whatever songs of mine are getting recreated, I would love to sing them myself. And all of them became popular once again. I shouldn’t have missed the opportunity but somehow there was a mistake. But on the bright side, the song that I once sang got recreated and people are loving it. That’s a good sign."
Udit concluded by saying that he is glad people still want to listen to his songs and it is a proud moment for him.
