Request for global (un)block

Request from Saluton

The following discussion is closed: no longer blocked

SORRY, I HAVE TO RE-POST IT BECAUSE THE PROBLEM HAS EMERGED AGAIN.

Hey hey hey, why was I blocked? Can't even edit my talk page. My nick is Saluton on ru-wiki and The Other Saluton on en-wiki. If I click the "screeenshot" link, the "page is not found. Saluton 10:59, 26 September 2009 (UTC) + :Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions.

  • Comment — I'm not a steward but as far as I can see you are not personally blocked. Perhaps your IP adress, IP range or network is globally hard-blocked. What is the block message that it appears when you try to edit a page on a site different to meta-wiki?. --Dferg 11:10, 26 September 2009 (UTC) + :Please also review Global blocking

To request unblock, visit your talk page and add the text {{unblock|global block — REASON}}. Replace "REASON" with the reason for requesting unblock.
Additionally, you may appeal the global block at Steward requests/Global.
The block expires on 23 March 2010 at 23:20."
This is what I see on en-wiki. Strangely enough, sometimes the block doesn't appear when I click "edit". Saluton 11:54, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Seems okay now. Saluton 12:09, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Nope. This block pops up again. Saluton 12:32, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
What is your IP?  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 14:53, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Now it's fine for sure, I can edit articles. I'm not sure about my IP, I edit from a corporate computer, sorry :) Saluton 04:13, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

My IP is 195.229.237.40. Saluton 12:33, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

User:PauloHelene made a lot of machine-generated bad Korean translations on meta, on strategy, and on other many wikimedia-related (and also not-wm-related) projects. The problem is that: the articles he made are not "translations", but Lorem Ipsum-like garbages. Also, he is not responding to any claim at all, or just saying strange words. (I even suspect he does not speak Korean at all..)

His problematic contribution had been reported at Strategy wiki(strategy:Village pump/Archive3#Very very wrong translations in Korean from many IPs) and at TranslateWiki(betawiki:Project:Translator/Archive/2009/3, 126th entry).

He had been blocked at ko.wp for his bad translations, and is blocked infinitely for trial to get admin's password[1][2]. He is also blocked at ja.wp for similar reason.

He also used several IPs e.g.

I and other users claimed at his talk page not to edit bad contributions, but he is still ignoring and producing garbages using mang IPs. Blocking his accounts and all IPs, and deleting/reverting his all contribution are needed. --Klutzy 11:14, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Shouldn't this be made under Steward requests/Checkuser instead of here? This seems to be more of a checkuser request than a global block request. Razorflame 17:07, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
No. We are requesting global lock/block. They are obviously his sock. No checkuser is needed. Kwj2772 (msg) 02:23, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

He is still making bad contributions on meta, on strategy again. He is not responding to his problems at all even until now, though he is clearly not inactive [3]. Blocking his accounts globally, and also his IPs(121.137.61.*?, 202.30.9.*) is really needed. --Klutzy 15:40, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

I understand this is very frustrating for our Korean users, however I don't know that this is clear vandalism. I will llock the sockpuppet accounts, but I'm leaving the main account alone. If they continue to disrupt, the account could be blocked as needed. Does that sound like an acceptable resolution for the time being?  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 05:31, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Request for global (un)lock and (un)hiding

Global lock/unlock for Snehvide og de syv dværge

Another confirmed named sock of the crosswiki mass-sockpuppetting Disney vandal, also known as Bambifan101. Already blocked on EN, but global block needed to prevent his vandalizing on other wikis. To date, its been confirmed that he has vandalized at some dozen or more other wikis beyond the English, being fond of targetting smaller, less monitored wikis and trying to trick their admins into editing on English wiki for him, so they get blocked in his stead. further details -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 22:29, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Seansoo returning

Status:    Not done

Previously discussed here, he is now editing as User:Soofamily on enwiki, jawiki, and idwiki where he tends to do all of the problems by performing machine translations from content on enwiki and jawiki, and then translating it for idwiki. He also has a series of accounts on other projects, where he does not appear to perform the mass machine translations. His ability to edit the Indonesian, Japanese, and English Wikipedias is what will cause the most harm, by allowing him to make more and more machine translations to merely benefit his home wiki (idwiki) and violate the GFDL of the other Wikipedias.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 04:17, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

I don't think this is something stewards should be dealing with. It's a local problem every wiki should deal on its own. --FiliP ██ 21:58, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Requests for global permissions

Global rollback for Abigor

Hello,

Maybe I make this request to soon, maybe not but I'm requesting global rollback for 2 reasons.

  1. GR would help me when I revert spammers when they made multible edits at once, I don't really do cross wiki vandalism fighting but I do work on the M:SBL.
  2. GR would help me when hell breaks lose on Commons and a high used image would be deleted again and CommonsDelinker unlinks it again globally, the last time it happend I asked a Rollbacker to fix it, but it would be better when I could fix the mess by me fellow admins myself.

As many people will know I'm a admin on Commons, Meta, Incubator, Strategy and I have rollback on multible projects so I know how it works :) Huib talk 17:54, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Global rollback for Wikisidd

Hello,

My name is Siddharth and I am from India. I am not new to Wikipedia in English and its other sister pedias in other languages. I have contributed to the English Wikipedia many times but never thought of registering a account. Now when I have, I decided to contribute to my native language Wikipedia, the Hindi Wikipedia. I am active there for some time and I am feeling happy to contribute quality and more and more articles on every subject on it.

I want to get the rollback rights for my Indian languages Wikipedia’s like Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali, Guajarati and more. Vandalism is everywhere, you guys on En Wikipedia deal it every day and the Hindi Wikipedia and other Indian Wikipedia’s are no exception. If I get RollBack rights I will able to rollback the damaging edits done by trolls and innocent users who don’t know the information worthiness and its reliable source. It will also prevent the growing Indian Wikipedia’s to grow in a dignifying and reliable source of information standard -way.

I hope you will understand my enthusiasm for the this great open project and grant me the RollBack rights for Indian Languages Wikipedia’s group / Hindi Wikipedia.

If you have any questions or comments please ask me and I will try to answer them asap.

Thank you and Have a nice day.

Siddharth | Wikipedia Username: Wikisidd

Hello Barras, well thank you for your opinion. If you check the link you have provided, I have done work in both English and Hindi Wikipedia and I have stated that. I have not over tolled or glorified my application. I will try to work soon on other Indian languages Wikipedia and for only them I have requested these rights. I hope you recheck and understand. Thank you. --Wikisidd 20:33, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
This is the page to request global rollback, this means rollback on all global wikis not only for the few wikis you mentioned. Perhabs you are here on the wrong page. On en you can try w:WP:RFRB to request rollback and on other wikis you have to look up the right page. This page is for an other right which allows you to rollback on all wikis. The global rollback flag is especially for members of the SWMT team to fight vandalism on a global level. --Barras 20:50, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Dear Barras, if you will trust in me and allow I can be good help for the global Wikipedia community and do Rollbacks on every Wikipedia project there. I just want you to understand that what I just need is a chance and support. But your any opinion, in favour or not is welcome because you have contributed a lot to Wiki than me and have a experienced opinion. --Wikisidd 21:38, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
  •   Oppose with under 300 edits globally, you can't be given the global rights, but I hope you apply for them on hiwiki where you have some edits. Laaknor 20:54, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Hello Laaknor, it is important for all to understand that only number of edits and new articles made cannot be held as a measure to give someone rights to serve wiki or not. If someone edits articles insanely all day by just adding . etc then will it be a good choice? I have dedicated in detail on all my edits and new articles. I respect your opinion as a dedicated Wiki user and I want to request you that chances should be given on determination not figures. I hope you will understand and cooperate. --Wikisidd 21:38, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
I must say that Wikisidd's eagerness to help in this way has to be greatly respected. However, whilst I can accept that simply the number of edits a user has made is not an indicator of an individuals ability to use global rollback appropriately, a significant number of edits makes it possible to assess that individuals approach to problems much more thoroughly. Global rollback is just one tool for contributing to the WMF projects. There are many other ways in which you can contribute and I'm sure you'll be able to find these many opportunities. The difficulty with this request though is that it isn't possible for the stewards to properly assess your contributions. This is vital because they have an enormous responsibility to the thousands of contributors on the hundreds of WMF projects to care for their work. I'm sure you can appreciate that this means they have to adopt a very cautious approach which makes them unable to grant your request at this time despite the great appreciation of your work I'm sure they will have. Adambro 23:03, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
  •    Please request rollback on the wikis where you think you need it, for global rollback you should be active in SWMT and have a decent number of cross-wiki contributions and also some more wiki experience. --თოგო (D) 20:56, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Hello Thogo, well I am a active contributor on Hindi Wikipedia and English Wiki for quite some time and I am determined to do so in detail and quality in the future. I had not known about the SWMT group, now you have told me I CAN be a part of it if you veterans allow. I am eager to help in every Wikipedia on the globe as I can; I have just given reference for Hindi and English one for realistic details. Thank you for your cooperation. --Wikisidd 21:38, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
We would welcome you as a part of the SWMT group Wikisidd, however we would unfortunately still be unable to give you the global rollback right now. Even active members of the group do not normally get approved until they have been active on the team for 1-3 months or more and have proven they have a deep understanding of what needs to be done. That said you can always help remove vandalism with the undo button if you are unable to get the rollback right in the wikis you work with. All of us have spent lots of time using that very button to help remove vandalism Jamesofur 22:01, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Global rollback for ZooPro

I have rollback rights on English Wikipedia and i am wanting to further contribute cross wiki. No problems if not granted just thought i would ask. Regards ZooPro 06:12, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Hey ZooPro, While I'm not a steward and so don't make the final decision I appreciate your interest in helping out crosswiki since we can always use more help. Sadly looking at your cross-wiki contributions I'm not sure if it would be the right time for you to have Global Rollback. GR is generally given out to people who already have at least 1-3 months of extensive xWiki experience (usually as a part of the Small Wiki Monitoring Team) showing that they are able to work well in the environment. It would be wonderful if you wanted to help out without rollback (you don't need it to do almost everything we do) and then maybe a little while down the road we could revisit the global rollback discussion :) Jamesofur 09:57, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
I would have to agree with Jamesofur on this one. You should join the SWMT and start participating in that before asking for the tool. Wish you luck in the future, Razorflame 09:58, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Oppose per concerns above , please try to be more active in cross wiki issues and feel free to run again couple of month , we always need new people --Mardetanha talk 10:01, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

  •   no. This flag is for those that work on most small projects, and that have proven themselves in that job. If you wish to only work on some small projects, you should ask for rights on those projects. Laaknor 20:13, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Global rollback for Gulmammad

I mainly watch and contribute to en.wiki and az.wiki and most of their sister projects as well as commons. I have had rollback tool on en.wiki about a year and half and found it very useful. As an experienced user with this tool, I think having this tool globally would be more helpful and I'd start monitoring even more number of small wikis. Thanks, Gulmammad 16:58, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

  •   Oppose - Good work so far, but it doesn't look like you have any experience with cross-wiki anti-spam/vandalism work. I would suggest using the undo button for a few months and getting a couple hundred revisions under your belt. Regards, –Juliancolton | Talk 17:00, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Sorry, but you haven't done much crosswiki anti vandal work. GR is meant for crosswiki anti vandal work. If you wish to be involved in the same, you might join SWMT. For 2-3 wikis, it's better to ask rollback on the respective projects. Regards, Pmlineditor  17:02, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I will work in the direction that you suggested and if needed, stop by again... Best, Gulmammad 00:25, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good. For now global rollback will not be granted. --Erwin 08:59, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
