  • Reason: I would like to request that my account be reverted to its previous name, which was simply "Noir." I have had this username since December 25, 2008, when I usurped it from the previous user on en.wikipedia. The automatic name change to Noir~enwiki appears to have occurred on April 22, 2015. It would seem that I've lost the opportunity to register the global account because of the existence of an identically-named account on ja.wikipedia, with more total edits (at the time of writing, 840 to 643). Both accounts are about the same age, created in 2006, and both accounts have most recent edits also of about the same age. According to guidelines, it is up to the discretion of the global renamer whether to allow this request. I understand that the other user with this name is an active contributor as well, but I would very much like to retain this username if anything can be done; it's been my identity on the English Wikipedia for 7 years. If there is any way to accomplish this, please advise on the proper procedure for contacting a user on a Wikipedia project in a different language, as I have no experience with this. Thank you for your consideration.

Also, do keep in mind that while there is no official usurpation policy, a proposed draft has been written, and under that draft the target user would have to be notified. I didn't get a ping as you didn't add a signature in your first edit. As written on the SRUC "Wikimedia Foundation staff have revealed that they believe the account merge tool will not be available soon, and there is no exact timeframe at the moment." Alright, it's weird that it does not appear when I looked for it. This account is not in use for more than a year and it only have one contribution. It was created by an admin in 2003 for his son, I sent him a message, but his last edit was almost a year ago. I think we can freeze this request until he answer.
I think I also trip the AntiSpoof extension because there is also an almost similar name Noe in en.wikipedia, but no edit since 2010. I took a look at a proposal for criteria and in such case it's all on you. Eölen (talk) 17:38, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
@Eölen: The user has made a valid edit here and there is User:Noe with +4000 edits which is causing a anti spoof (= username too similar) conflict. You might want to add something to Noé, for example "Noe first two latters of surname". --Steinsplitter (talk) 09:48, 9 October 2015 (UTC)
@Steinsplitter: The valid edit with the Noé account was made by Aoineko, who then came back to his own account. As I wrote, he created this account for his son. I sent him a message, he answered he will ask to his son. The account User:Noe decided to change his name to User:Nø and is now using only this account. I am global user user:Nø, and I confirm that I used to be user:Noe on English wikipedia and (as far as I recall) Danish wikipedia and Mediawiki. @Steinsplitter: I prefer Noé with a diacritic. I asked User:Noe because of the similarity of the name. I also asked w:fr:Noé user. So, to sketch up the story: User:Aoineko got a son in 2003 and he creates a fr.Wikipedia profile for his son, named Noé. Once in 2013, Noé made an edit and then his father did some copy edit (see history of the article). I can't say if it was a mislog or a lesson Aoineko gave to his son. Then, this week, I (still Eölen) sent a message on the French Wikipedia Aoineko talk page to explain my will to rename my account. He asked to his son and then reply both agree to offer me the account name. They suggest to rename Noé to Noebe first and then rename Eölen to Noé. I hope I made it clear this time. The usurped account will exist, yes - but you can ask merge when the tool is aviable. Merge is not possible for now (and it will not be possible in the next months). Yeah, I just don't like the idea of the account being around :) It already bugs me that there's a "Waldir (usurped)" in the wikimania 2007 wiki, I'd rather not create a similar situation. You can still edit en.wikipedia, en.wikibooks, and es.wikipedia at "Arthaey". The three edits on en.wikibooks are lost and there are no edits on es.wiki. It's a side-effect of SUL that the en.wikibooks and es.wikipedia accounts were split, but because they have so few edits, it is not worth trying to merge them back together. en:User:AstroNomer was one of the original Wikipedians in 2001. As with some others of the same vintage, he never got around to claiming the SUL for the name, and his account was renamed to en:User:AstroNomer~enwiki. The SUL was taken by someone in Russia (ru:User:AstroNomer), but that account has been permanently blocked since 2009 for being some kind of shared account.

It's not right that there is now no user on the English Wikipedia called AstroNomer. So, I'm putting this out there as a speculative request: how about reassigning the SUL from the useless Russian account, and renaming his account to what it was before? The Russian account was never used to edit on any other projects (Special:CentralAuth/AstroNomer) so has no need of the SUL per se. I realize this request implies that the blocked account would need renaming (presumably to "AstroNomer~ruwiki"), and that renaming an account after the fact, and a blocked one at that, may even be unprecedented. But it strikes me that the original AstroNomer has about an inarguable a claim to deserving the name as you can get. That's bolstered by the fact that the operators of the Russian account forfeited their right to edit by making a serious contravention of Russian Wikipedia policy. This is in contrast to the many users that lost their chosen name despite having done nothing wrong (just being away a while).

Basically, as a mark of respect for one of the founding members of our entire project, I'm asking that a special, out of process decision - an adjudication is possibly the word - be made to do the Right Thing, and give AstroNomer his name back on enwiki.
