Requests for bot status is a page to ask for a bot flag for your bot on any Wikimedia project. Completed requests are archived

Stewards grant bot status for accounts, but please remember - your bot must first be accepted by the local community. Please be sure to check the following bot policies before submitting a bot request:

Wikipedia: ar de el en es fa fi fr he id it ja jv lb lt ms nds nl os pl ro ru simple sl ta tr vi zh;
Wikiquote: en

Please be sure you'll include all of the following info in your request:

  • The bot owner,
  • The bot account,
  • The Wiki project on which you ask for bot status,
  • A link to the local announcement page;

If anything will be missing from your request, you will be asked by a steward to give more information. Also, please don't skip the last point even if there's no community on the project, or there's no announcement page - if that's the case, just be bold and make one!

Stewards: all requests presented here should be archived when fulfilled.

Hi, I'm Sundar, a bureaucrat in the Tamil wiki (ta:Wikipedia:நிர்வாகி தரத்துக்கான வேண்டுகோள்#Sundar, ta:Special:Listadmins) and an admin in the English wiki (en:Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Sundar, en:Special:Listadmins). I request that ta:User:SundarBot and en:User:SundarBot get bot flag on the respective wikipedias:

For English wiki, I've requested here.

Thank you. Sundar 13:04, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For TA Wiki; if there is no local request page please make one and request it there. --Walter 14:53, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For Upload file with { { GFDL } } from en:, eo:, ru:

Could you specify what project the bot should get status for, who you are, and the place it has been announced? Jon Harald Søby 16:28, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The project: eo:Vikipedio:Laboro por robotoj#Eltrovado de senco.
Discussion in commons: commons:User talk:Maksim#please link images.
I noticed 2:07, 14 January 2006 Jon Harald Søby changed group membership for User:Maksim-bot@ruwiki from to bot. So Jon where are we with this anonymous request? Is it done for :eo and :en too? In this case, why not archiving the request. Thanks to update info or move to archive. villy 21:06, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My request is for commons:Maksim-bot. Excuser me I, mistaken [ [:commons: ] ] and [ [:meta: ] ] (they both are for all languages) Maksim 15:15, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The simplest, Maksim, would be to enunciate your request following the boilerplater request above at Requests_for_bot_status#Boilerplate_template_for_bot_requests. You will notice that the local request link should not be a user talk page but on [[:xx:Project:XXXXX]] model. Typically, for Commons: Commons:Village_pump should be the place for the local request. Thank you. villy 20:18, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, but I will not request for a while. Maksim 06:46, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Villy: Sorry for not replying, I didn't see this before now. The ruwiki request was just below this one, and was archived: /Archive/January 2006#ru:Участник:Maksim-bot. Jon Harald Søby 20:53, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Superzerocool

I want request a bot flag for my BOT (BOT-Superzerocool) in es.wikipedia. The task to accomplish is interwiki check in some articles in many projects, like Week's Translation or Week's Country. This bot have some contributions before asking for the flag, but Taichi recently proposed me to register my BOT. Superzerocool 16:50, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I need to get the bot status for the following wikies (I have left a message on all community boards I could find notifying of the pending bot status).

Some of the wiki's users have explicitly left messages on my talk page asking me to get this status. The bot has been running on most of the larger wikies since July, and on ru: since March. --Yurik 03:05, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

please add links to your local requests first, and link them to this request, thanks. (see requirements at the top of this page) oscar 15:46, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
Added several links, in process of adding more. Please note that all of the above sites are very very small, and very often have just a few people semi-activelly participating. --Yurik 17:49, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why do you feel that bot status is needed in arabic wiki at this stage, I get the function of this bot, but we do you feel that the work size at ar.wiki requires a bot status. We have some rtl problems and it is worth if a demo is staged on arabic wiki first. --Tarawneh 22:55, 24 December 2005 (UTC) (sysop)[reply]
I will perform a demo run on ar:. You will see it in your recent changes log. --Yurik 10:01, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Still, we need more feed back, we almost have 10000 page. Do you need a botstat for such work size, and if yes, for how long?. Also, we need feed back on questions left on your talk page --Tarawneh 04:13, 30 December 2005 (UTC) (sysop)[reply]
Bot status simlpy removes edits done by the bot from the recent changes list (unless explicitly requested). The bot itself does not need this status to run, but it usually helps other users because they don't want to see tons of bot edits in the recent changes list. In other words, if you want everyone to always see changes without the ability to hide them, i can continue running the bot as is. If, on the other hand (like everyone else in the wiki-world, you would rather not see trusted bot's changes, mark YurikBot as bot, and it will dissappear. Its not mandatory, but people tend to like it. Also, the bot status is perpetual (you would want the interwiki updated all the time (i presume), not just once. --Yurik 22:54, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done--Shizhao 06:30, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Vote not done. remove. until the voting is done. see User talk:Shizhao#Arabic Wikipedia--Shizhao 11:06, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, vote is closed. please grant bot status. --Tarawneh 10:24, 15 January 2006 (UTC) (sys op)[reply]

Request for bot flag for de:Benutzer:SpBot. It's based on pywikipedia-framework and is used for fixing typographical errors, text replacements, ... see: de:Wikipedia:Bots#SpBot and its edits. Bot owner: de:Benutzer:Spongo 19:40, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

you should use a bot for typo replacements.

You know what typographical errors are? --Spongo 22:05, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Has the issue mentioned by Bdk on that request page been solved? Jon Harald Søby 11:07, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I think you are talking about this. I have not corrected typos since October, because of the problem Bdk mentioned, but I used it for e.g. correcting links or redirects. --Spongo 21:46, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Giving bot status. Don't use it for typo fixing untill it's be cleared with the community. =) Jon Harald Søby 21:50, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. --Spongo 11:28, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

en:User:KocjoBot

I'm requesting bot flag on :en WP (see request on :en). After ones week run, there were one problem with bot, but it was fixed. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 10:58, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unsure if approval given yet. Asked for clarification at w:en:Wikipedia talk:Bots. Angela 10:43, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I believe we're hanging fire until the bot's author tells us exactly what is going on - there's been some confusion understanding exactly what interwiki links the bot will be updating. Initially, we were led to believe that the bot would be updating five language's worth of interwiki links, but it transpires what the author intended was to have the bot updating all interwiki links on five Wikipedias. At the English Wikipedia, we have a policy whereby interwiki link bot's owners must understand the affected languages, so if the latter ends up being the objective here, then we may have a problem. Rob Church Talk 03:08, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The bot is using standard python wikipedia interwiki.py script, so I feel that this is not a problem. As for misunderstandig: I'm using this bot on 4 (5 if :en would be approved) WP to change IW of all WP. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 20:10, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You say it's updating the interwiki links for all languages? That conflicts with en-wiki's requirement that you understand the languages, I do believe. Might be best to hang fire a bit longer and see what people think back on en-wiki. Rob Church Talk 03:20, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Once more, I would like to request a bot-flag; the problems were resolved and bot has made it on this list. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 12:13, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I request botstatus on JBO.wiki for their request. Jcb 16:02, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I left them a note. Jcb 16:04, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Done --Walter 23:46, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
sorry, undone for now: first waiting for community support at jbo. oscar 00:42, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The request was allready archived. You can read it here. Jcb 16:18, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand. The only links you give are the user talk pages (of which one isn't even on the wiki in question). Is there a local village pump where the bot has been announced? Jon Harald Søby 18:17, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This is the situation; nl:gebruiker:Jcb sometimes is active on JBO-wiki with his bot. He has receive a request from jbo:user:Piere on his talk page (see talk page) from Piere of JBO-wiki. Piere is one of the 2 sysops of JBO and the only bureaucrat there. Jcb has put a notice on the talk page of Piere (see jbo:User_talk:Pier#RobotJcb) on 26 december. Look at the RC of JBO. That is a near dead wiki. It is not incorrect to regard Piere to be able to speek in the name of the "community" for so far it exist.
I have informed Jcb that he could make a "Request for botstatus page" on JBO and ask it formally again there. I see in this case no problem in granting bot status directly. A new request to the "community" of jbo will only be for show. --Walter 00:48, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
a quote from the top of this page: "... but please remember - your bot must first be accepted by the local community". imo this means that if either community or support are missing, RobotJcb can still work on jbo as much as he wishes to, but (for now) simply without a botbit, meaning: without being concealed in the normal rc. a proper request is never "for show" but a serious matter, please don't start handing out permissions or botbits without conforming to policy. what's the hurry anyway? oscar 03:16, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For me there is no hurry, I expect to do about one or two single botedits every month there. The only reason to apply for a botbit was there request on my talkpage. For me there is no problem. Jcb 17:53, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

pamwiki

Although it was not requested here, I made RobotJcb@pamwiki bot, because it was doing so many edits that Recent Changes was virtually unreadable, making it hard to see if anyone has spammed it. I hope there are no objections to that. Jon Harald Søby 18:14, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

if the community is ok with it: fine. if their was no community support, then it should be approved first according to the policy above, i am afraid. btw as an alternative for such situations it is imho also perfectly possible to (urgently) request bot-operators to slow down their bot to a more acceptable speed if they simply go too fast. oscar 21:10, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The problem was not that my robot was to fast, it does one edit every few minuts, sometimes more than 10 minutes nothing. The problem at PAM.wiki was a lack of other edits. Jcb 13:41, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

es:User:RoboDick

I would like to have a botbit at ES.wikipedia. Mostly to run interwiki.py. Dutchy-Dick 13:00, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I left a note there. Dutchy-Dick 16:44, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No consensus on this request so far on w:es. Please do not grant flag until the matter is solved there. Taragui 14:46, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
That's not true. You can read there ("Hola, si vas a procesar listas de Interwikis producidas a partir de wikipedia en otros idiomas sería excelente") that he would be very welcome when he runs multi-login from other wikipedias. That is exactly what RoboDick does. If the stewards need a translation to english, you may contact me at my Dutch discussion page and ask me to make a translation. Jcb 23:18, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The local note has been moved to the archive. Jcb 16:38, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I have read that notice and there seems to be no problem for the ES wiki for this. I give the bot status to that bot. --Walter 18:12, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There is a special page for that on ES es:Wikipedia:Bot/Autorizaciones. Best use that so there can be no discussion about it instead of the local cafe-page. --Walter 18:15, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please see es:Usuario_Discusión:Jcb#Bots. A local admin told me that the cafe was the right place to announce it. Jcb 18:22, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It was started yesterday. But IMO you should go through that process; I have been looking for a very long time now in different Cafés, and am unable to find your announcement. Jon Harald Søby 19:42, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
His announcement has been archived, you can find it here. Jcb 22:34, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There was one condition on the comments: OK to import interwikis from other wikis. No to do interwikis automatically at es: as there are too many of them. As several users expressed concern and the flag has not been set yet I also propose you to go to the new voting page and confirm consensus. --Ascánder 12:35, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
