2024 VIDEO CONTENT GUIDELINES[edit]

We're creating a video to highlight the journey of Wiki Indaba since inception. The video will be posted across the Wiki Indaba social media platforms and also showcased during the Wiki Indaba 2024 conference in South Africa. In the spirit of UBUNTU we want our diverse African Wikimedia community members to be a part of the documentation of the milestones we have collectively achieved.

Filming Guidelines:[edit]

  1. Format: Landscape (horizontal) is preferred. You can film with your phone or camera.
  2. Basic Shots:
    • Medium shot: This shows you from the waist up, which is great for talking directly to the camera.
    • Close-up shot: This focuses on your face and expressions, ideal for conveying emotions or highlighting specific details.
  3. Lighting: Natural light is best whenever possible. Avoid harsh overhead lights or backlighting. If you’re filming indoors please consider using supplementary lighting for good quality videos.
  4. Language: We encourage you to submit videos in English & French. We will add subtitles for the global audience.
  5. Duration: Raw/unedited videos should be 2-3 minutes, while edited clips can be as short as 15-30 seconds. Don't worry about adding your name to the graphics - the communications team will handle that.
  6. What to Include in your Video:
    • Introduction: Start by introducing yourself! Say: "Hi, my name is [Your Name] and I'm a member of Wikimedia Community UserGroup…..
    • Camera Position: Use a camera tripod/ stand and frame the camera at eye level, slightly above is okay too. Avoid tilting the camera up or down or moving it side to side unless you are filming a group or showing us details that are a part of your content.
    • B-roll Footage: We encourage you to share additional clips (B-roll) that showcase you and your user group in action! This could be footage or photos of you participating in activities, events, or simply interacting with others in your group.
    • Seating: Sit comfortably, but maintain good posture.
    • Pro Tip: Practice your introduction beforehand and as you film, smile and be yourself!
