Flexible grid connection requirements would integrate charging hubs with renewable generation, enhancing cost-effectiveness and energy efficiency. This approach aligns with sustainability goals and helps mitigate local energy flow peaks, reducing grid strain. With our hub, the Rhine-Alpine corridor an important TEN-T route is now electrified, making it easier for transport companies and shippers to switch to electric transport." We are excited to announce our expansion into Italy with the construction of our first charging hub in Bagnolo San Vito, strategically located along the Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor. 🇮🇹 🆕 Set to be operational in Q3 2024, this hub is designed to offer a reliable and high-performance charging experience for electric heavy-duty vehicles. Located 40 km south of Verona near the A22 Autostrada del Brennero, this key route connects Italy to the DACH region and Northern Europe. The A22 is crucial for linking the Po Valley, Modena, and the A1 Autostrada del Sole, which connects major cities like Milan, Rome, and Naples. The initial phase will feature four Combined Charging System (CCS) chargers, powering five bays with up to 400kW of power per bay. Future expansions will include Megawatt Charging System (MCS) chargers. The hub will showcase Milence’s signature arch, secured with gates, and provide amenities for truck drivers to ensure a comfortable stop. Anja Niersen, CEO of Milence, states: “This hub is the perfect location to kick off our network roll-out in Italy and will become a key node along the north-south transport corridor that is vital for European commerce. As regulated entities, DSO’s remuneration is determined by national regulation. However, the current regulatory frameworks often fall short in providing adequate incentives for anticipatory investment. This leads to rejection or discouragement by National Regulatory Authorities. ⚡ Recognizing the potential for Distribution System Operators (DSOs) to make proactive investments is paramount. Grid operators should not face financial penalties for building grid capacity based on forecasts, even if the capacity is underutilized. Developing efficient, scalable multimegawatt charging hubs will necessitate a forward-thinking approach from grid operators. These scenarios should incorporate political, industrial, and climate objectives, particularly focusing on the transition to electric Heavy Duty Vehicles(HDV).
