    AI tools can be powerful when working with investigative journalism 🔎 But how exactly are these tools used? At Schibsted Media, AI tools like ChatGPT are helping our teams analyze vast amounts of data, uncover errors, and detect plagiarism with remarkable precision. This is how it may look in practice in our news rooms: 📽️ Aftonbladet used ChatGPT to analyse thousands of video clips on Riks, a YouTube channel linked to the Swedish right-wing party Sverigedemokraterna (SD). 🔍 Looking at the results, they discovered a narrative where political opponents are under constant attack, painting a dystopian picture of Sweden. 📊 The AI identified that most topics had a negative angle, with the channel blaming SD’s opponents for the country's alleged decline.     Meet Karlo, a Machine Learning Master's student at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, who is spending his summer interning at Schibsted Media! 👨💻 As a Data Engineer intern, he's working on migrating a data pipeline and transforming its core functionality from Scala to Python, ensuring efficient data processing for all of Schibsted's media brands. 💡 Reflecting on his experience, Karlo shares, "The team consists of both Data and Machine Learning Engineers. They are very easy-going but still give me motivation and just the right amount of pressure to make me progress."     Meet Casper and read about his experience as a summer intern at Schibsted Marketplaces 👋👇 🙋♂️ Casper Lunde Amtrup, 23. ☀️ Summer interning as a backend engineer for Schibsted Marketplaces (SMP). 🧑🏫 Studying informatics, NTNU, Norway. When looking at internships this winter, Casper came across the position at SMP, an internship dealing with data – a field he was passionate about exploring. 💡”I have gotten a lot of trust and access, which is great but also scary. You have to try it out and see how it goes. There's room for trial and error, and I think that culture is really important," says Casper. In SMP, Casper works with developing applications that process large amounts of data. For instance, developing code that might be used millions of times. 🔧 It's exciting to be able to develop things that affect so many users across brands, even though they (the users) may not necessarily notice it.” Casper also shares his three takeaways for students and future interns: 1️⃣ Always apply for an internship, even if you think chances are small - you might get it. 2️⃣ Hone your soft skills! Cooperation and communication is key. 3️⃣ Step out of your comfort zone, like eating lunch with a new person - you might make unexpected connections. #internship #summerintern #student #career #studentcareer

    IN/LAB, short for inclusion lab, is a joint venture by Schibsted Media and Tinius Trust. Since 2022, the lab has been working to navigate the future of news with a particular focus on young news outsiders and the method of co-creation. This spring, the IN/LAB Futures Forum gathered young adults from Run for Office, a youth organisation founded in Husby, and journalists from Aftonbladet, Svenska Dagbladet, and Omni.se to jointly envision desirable futures for the news media. The basis for our discussions was four speculative prototypes created in previous IN/LAB youth co-creation processes 🔮✨ Here are three key learnings from our conversations: 🤝 Wanting hybrid news experiences The young Futures Forum participants envision a future where AI avatars and human journalists collaborate to deliver personalized news. AI should provide fast and straightforward answers, while human journalists should offer nuanced, deep insights. This combination is believed to enhance people's understanding and trust in news. 🙋♀️ Calling for user agency Participants highlighted the importance of user-shaped news experiences. They value transparency, feedback tools, and the ability to choose how they consume news. This approach is expected to better hold media accountable and tailor news to individual needs, making it more accessible and engaging. ✋ Rejecting trivialization The group cautioned against gamification and emotionally adapted news, fearing it might dehumanize people and trivialize serious topics. They advocate for authentic and objective reporting that respects the gravity of issues and allows users to engage on their own terms.
