Backup WAN Option

The TracNet system can connect to an available backup source of Internet connectivity, either automatically or manually (see WAN Selection). In Automatic mode, the TracNet system will connect to the backup WAN only when no other WAN connections are available. A common choice of backup connection is the Iridium Certus service, as it provides pole-to-pole coverage.

Note: Antenna systems and airtime plans for Iridium Certus service are available for purchase from KVH. Contact your local KVH dealer or sales representative for details.

To add your backup WAN connection to the TracNet system's configuration, follow these steps:

  1. Change the gateway IP address of your backup system to 198.19.56.1. Refer to the system's user documentation for details.
  2. Select a port configuration on the TracNet system that includes a "Backup WAN Egress" (see Port Configurations).
  3. Using an Ethernet cable, connect your backup system's LAN port to the designated "Backup WAN Egress" port on the TracNet system's BDU.

Note: KVH Manager will not report backup WAN data usage. However, if you are subscribed to an Iridium Certus airtime plan from KVH, you can view your Iridium Certus data usage in mini-VSAT Manager (accessible via mykvh.com).
