Nokia has launched several of its new innovations in Midsummer Launch in Finland couple of weeks ago. We have announced two new two compact, next-generation outdoor #Airscale baseband products with 4G-5G and 2G-3G-4G-5G options. These baseband products will support twice as much cell capacity and enhance uplink throughput by up to 30 percent while reducing power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to existing basebands we have. On #Airscale radio portfolio, we have added a new high-performance #Habrok 32 Massive MIMO radio that supports an instantaneous bandwidth of 200MHz. This will enable operators to choose the ideal Massive MIMO solution that best fits their available spectrum assets and deployment needs. We have also launched #Kolibri and all-in-One 5G small cell for indoor and outdoor use cases. #Kolibri products don’t need a separate baseband unit, which enables simplified installations and deployment flexibility. Last week I represented XConnect at the Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF) Nordics Leadership Forum event kindly hosted by the mobile operator group Tele2. Business Messaging was the theme and let's just say the topic of #AI and its role in the Messaging space came up once or twice. The combination of two of my favorite things - Sports and 5G!   Tomorrow, we will demonstrate the power of 5G with our partners 3 Danmark, Sony and TV2. When Denmark is playing Sweden in football tomorrow, in front of the sold out national arena Parken in Copenhagen with massive amounts of network traffic, TV2 will use a slice of 3 Danmark's super 5G SA network at Parken to connect Sony TV cameras for the TV production. Why is this important? Well, 3 Danmark's 5G Stand Alone at Parken will provide better flexibility in TV production (think less cables), and better viewer experiences as we can reduce latency so that remote TV viewers can see the event as it happens. Now to the game... As a swede living in Denmark football has not been a favorite topic over the last few years considering Sweden's performance in championships. And I expect to hear from my Danish colleagues on Thursday how great the game was. I am mostly looking forward to see 5G in action! Connectivity can be used in unexpected ways with great value for society. For example Microwave links can be found wherever there are cell towers and base stations, and in total there are several million links in operation around the world. Each of these can function both as a transmitter for mobile connectivity and as a rain gauge.   With this microwave data, 3 Sverige and Ericsson enable SMHI (Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute) to create a real-time map showing how much it rains in different places, something that is not currently possible with traditional weather radar systems. With more accurate data, this can contribute to early warnings for floods and extreme weather and to optimize cities' water systems.   Looking forward to following this project and how it develops. 05 Jul 2024 — Purchase price for Vonage back in November 2021: US$6.2 billion. Total amount written down to-date: approximately US$4 billion (roughly two thirds of the original sum forked out for Vonage). I think this says it all. I wrote about this acquisition on 23rd Nov 2021. Those interested can revisit it here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gkwhdXzs. It would appear that my scepticism back then was justified. In my opinion, part of the problem lies with the lacklustre performance for 5G (app developers are not wildly excited over it) and lack of experience with app developer communities. It was never going to be easy for hardware companies to pivot to software. It's an entirely different business (from both a cultural and business model aspect). This also serves as a cautionary tale on hubris. Strategy (assuming it is correct) is one thing, execution is another thing altogether. There are market readiness and technology codependence to factor in as well. Ericsson has tie-ups with telcos, but many of them are not adept at selling software-based products. This is another challenge!

We asked Christer Boberg, head of Technology and Strategy, Global Network Platform for Ericsson, what he sees in the future of the connected car industry. He answered, "From the Ericsson side, we see that we obviously can't build different networks for different appliances and so it's important that what we drive now with AECC is also applicable for other industries. That is one of the key things also in AECC: we start now with connected cars, and going forward connected vehicles in general, but it's actually something that we believe will be beneficial for the whole connected industry."
