Acetylcholinesterase

gene in Homo sapiens

Acetylcholinesterase is an enzyme found in nerve synapses, including nerve-to-muscle junctions. Its function is to end transmission across a synapse.

Acetylcholinesterase (catalytic domain) tetramer, Mus musculus.

It breaks up neurotransmitters like acetylcholine, and allows us to extend our muscles after contraction.
