Excise officer accepts bribe in US Nagar, held
Rudrapur: In an anti-corruption operation, district excise officer of US Nagar Ashok Kumar Mishra was caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 70,000 in Rudrapur on Tuesday.
The operation was conducted by Haldwani’s vigilance establishment sector on deputy superintendent Anil Singh Manral’s instructions after a liquor shop owner in Khatima filed a complaint that his shop—allotted for 2023-24 and renewed for 2024-25—had unclaimed goods worth Rs 10.2 lakhs from last year’s surcharge and DEO Mishra demanded a 10% bribe on the surcharge amount for the release of the goods.

Manral found evidence substantiating the allegations and a trap team was formed. Director Vigilance V Murugeshan said, “A probe under Prevention of Corruption Act is underway and Mishra is being interrogated.” Aakash Ahuja
