1-month jail for Poachgate's Nandu in Daggubati Venkatesh's plot lease case

HYDERABAD: In the contempt case filed by actor Daggubati Venkatesh over unauthorised construction on his land leased out for a restaurant, the Telangana high court has sentenced the accused to one month jail and imposed a penalty of Rs 2,000 for violating the court directive to maintain status quo.
Judge K Lakshman, however, suspended the sentence for one month to enable Kore Nandu Kumar to file an appeal.Nandu is also an accused in the Poachgate case of Nov 2022 where he was arrested for allegedly trying to hatch a conspiracy to buy BRS MLAs at BJP's instance.
Venkatesh had accused Nandu Kumar of taking the plot in Film Nagar in Jubilee Hills on lease to run a restaurant but later making unauthorised construction. He was also accused of subletting the plot to third parties without consent and without obtaining permission from GHMC.
In Aug 2021, the HC had directed both Nandu as well as Venkatesh to maintain status quo and to not raise any new building on the plot. However, violating this order, Nandu built new structures which was also confirmed by the GHMC.
But in Nov 2022, Nandu was arrested in the Poachgate case. Following a complaint from Venkatesh, police filed criminal cases against Nandu for several offences under IPC for cheating, criminal breach of trust etc. Subsequently, Venkatesh had filed the contempt case citing ongoing construction and Nandu has now been convicted by the HC.
