Ganga Saptami holds a great religious significance in Hindu religion. This day is celebrated to honour the Goddess Ganga. According to the Hindu Scriptures, it is believed that Goddess Ganga took rebirth on this auspicious day. Goddess Ganga is present on earth in the form of sacred water. She is the mother to all human beings. It is believed that when Goddess Ganga came down on earth on Ganga Dussehra then sage Jahnu drank all the Ganga water. All the Gods and deities along with Bhagirath requested to Jahnu Rishi to release the Ganga then he accepted the request and released Goddess Ganga and again it came on earth on Ganga Saptami day that's why this is also celebrated as Jahnu Saptami. Maa Ganga is known by various names such as Bhagirathi, Gange, Vishnupadi, and Jahnvi.

7. Special Aarti is performed in the evening at various Ganga Ghats.
