Pitru Paksha holds an immense significance among Hindus. Shradh Paksha is observed for 16 long days and people worship their forefathers and ancestors for these 16 days. Performing Pitra Puja, Pitra Tarpan and Pind Daan during these days considered highly meritorious as it is believed that those who perform these activities they get rid of Pitru Dosha and by performing these religious activities their ancestors get relieved from the cycle of birth and death and they attain salvation.

As we all know that Pitru Paksha days are the most sacred days and during these 16 days of period, there are some activities that we need to give a break as they are prohibited and inauspicious to do. 1. One must perform shradh each day by offering food and clothes to the Brahmin.
2. Buying clothes and shoes are prohibited during these days.
3. People who have Pitra Dosha in their horoscope, must perform Pind Daan during this in Gaya Ji, Ujjain and other places which are recommended for Pitra Disha Nivarana Puja.
4. People must invite a qualified priest or brahmin who can perform Pitra Tarpan and eat the meal at home.
5. It is highly rewarding to feed cows, crows, dogs and ants.
6. One must avoid organizing auspicious events such as Marriages, Engagements and Roka Ceremonies.
7. Its is inauspicious to get involved in tamasik activities.
8. Avoid eating onion, garlic, egg and meat during these days.
9. Consuming alcohol is strictly prohibited.
10. Avoid buying new vehicle and new house.
11. Never do Girha Pravesh during these days.
12. One should not visit prominent temples.
13. Buying gold, silver or artificial jewellery is considered inauspicious.
14. Maintain celibacy during these days.
15. One must avoid hair cut, nails and shaving.
