  • 💕 The little things matter too - flexible working benefits aren't just about bigger things like doing the school run, caregiving responsibilities or keeping costs down. We see that most jobs now are at least hybrid, and others are fully remote. Here at Above & Beyond we're remote-first with occasional in-office time. 🐶 Across our team, some of the things remote working allows us to do include walk the dog during the day, put dinner in the oven so it's ready when we log off, have lunch by the river (riverside photo below), run the hoover around on a lunch break, eat healthier food and do a workout before starting the day. These things might seem small but they can make a BIG difference to someone's wellbeing. ⭐ What are you favourite little things about flexible or remote work? #ClimateTech #RemoteWork #FlexibleWork #WorkonClimate

  • 3️⃣ big impacts unconscious bias and a lack of diversity have on teams and hiring: 📌 You miss out on top talent 📌 Lowers team success (diverse teams make more money, are more creative and innovative, and better at retaining staff) 📌 Perpetuates an unfair hiring process These were just some of the points we discussed yesterday at our team lunch and learn session about unconscious bias in recruitment, with Rachel Crowther from Squash. We shared personal stories, looked at our own hiring practices and found some quick, actionable ways to make things even better for our clients and candidates. ✅ Making sure we and our clients are not only hiring diverse teams but also providing accessible interview processes and making appropriate adjustments, is vital to ensure everyone feels welcome and supported. #ClimateTech #WorkonClimate #UnconsciousBias #Diversity

  • 💡 Series five of the Climate Pioneers Show gave SO many insights, lessons and tips for founders and investors!! We’ve chosen a handful of our favourites here and we can’t wait to see what series six will bring later in the summer. 📈 Our next series will focus on scaling deep tech solutions in climate. We’re starting to speak to potential guests now, so if there’s someone you think we should speak to, or even if you want to put yourself forward, let us know in the comments. 📩 You can catch up with all previous episodes from series one to five on our YouTube channel and as a podcast on Apple, Spotify and Acast. https://lnkd.in/ewp9btxT 👀 “You can’t be what you can’t see.” - Marla Shapiro (HERMESA) Straight to the point and an overarching theme across most episodes this time, was the fact that we need FAR more diversity in investment. ❤️ “Social mobility is the key thing that I’m really, really passionate about and climate is my close second… Something that is making the world a better place was crucial for me to be investing my money back in.” - Neda Sahebelm (keshty) Whether it’s the focus of your business or your investment thesis, choosing something you have a deep-rooted passion for can make a world of difference. People know when you genuinely care and believe in what you’re doing. It’s infectious too! 🗣 “Talk about your startup, talk about your mission, long before you plan to raise, so more people know about you.” - Ben Keene (Raaise) It’s never too early to start laying the foundations for fundraising. Make sure you get your name out there, so you can have warm conversations when the time comes. 💰 “Never say no, because one of our investors that came in with £5k, that opened up for £100k.” - Anna Sandgren (Unibloom) The fundraising landscape is far narrower than you might think, and a warm intro can go a long way! A small cheque today could lead to something huge in the future. 🤝 “We had a lot of help from our previous investors and we’d been through a few incubator hubs that were really helpful in introducing us.” - Molly Allington Leverage your network as much as possible, build relationships along the way and don’t be afraid to ask for introductions. Most people are more than happy to help. 👩🎓 “There’s a vast education gap, how you package up the story and how you present to VCs… They didn’t have a network of entrepreneurs, so they couldn’t turn to anyone for mentorship or for guidance… They didn’t have access to capital or networks of capital.” - Andy Ayim MBE (Angel Investing School) Many startups struggle to close funding rounds and Andy has pinpointed the three main challenges that founders face and is working to resolve them. ⚡ “Two or three years ago, John Kerry said, ’50% of the technologies that we need to fight climate change haven’t been invented yet.’” - 🔋 Cam Ross If you ever need a reminder that the work you do is vital and desperately needed, remember this!
