𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒈𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒊𝒕. - Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson For #MensMentalHealthAwarenessMonth we challenged our colleagues from various departments to think about the stigma which surrounds men’s mental health and the obstacles they face daily. Despite the world becoming more progressive and men’s mental health being a big part of the evolving conversation, men still shy away from speaking up about their own battles as they see it as a form of weakness. In this video, our colleagues addressed how they think organisations can help support men in the workplace and how they can help destigmatise talking about their feelings and creating safer spaces to encourage them to be open and honest in communicating those feelings. Throughout the filming, 2 key words that jumped out at us: 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁. When asked: ‘How can Learning and Development support men’s mental health?’ Learning and Development Manager, Rich Tricker stated: “Everything we do in learning and development helps people get a better understanding of us, and for each other. It helps people to see and appreciate the similarities and differences in each other, and I think in learning and development, we owe it to ourselves, and we owe it to everybody we work with, to help them understand themselves and others to form better connections.” We want to break that barrier and remove the taboo for men’s mental health, and we strive to encourage our male colleagues to speak up and seek support if they need it.
