Avison Young has relaunched its successful Environmental Services team, with the appointment of industry-leading experts working within the newly created Environmental, Flood Risk and Drainage Team. We are delighted to welcome Catriona Woods as a Director to lead the Environmental Consultancy, bringing with her over 24 years’ experience in contaminated land risk assessment, business development and project management. She is joined by Senior Environmental Consultant, Tom V., who has worked on projects ranging from bespoke geoenvironmental and spatial assessments to large multidisciplinary infrastructure schemes. Headed up by David Hoppe, with Geraldine Horner leading the Drainage Consultancy, the team will provide a multidisciplinary service to a range of clients across the UK. The Avison Young #Glasgow Team is mentioned in The Herald Scotland this week, as part of The Glasgow School of Art (GSA)’s plans to rebuild the Mackintosh Building. 🏗️ Our colleagues Paul Broad and Saurabh Das prepared the Strategic Outline Business Case (SOBC) on behalf of the GSA, from December 2020 to June 2021. The SOBC Addendum, which is set to be published in early 2025, will identify the appropriate route to delivery of the faithful reinstatement of the Mackintosh Building. For David T. M. Jones, Managing Director of our Business Rates team, the new government should focus on a phased reduction in the Uniform Business Rate (UBR) and decouple the tax from inflation, as well as utilising other income streams. “We advocate for a reduction in the Uniform Business Rate to around 44p – a realistic target that would cost around £6bn to deliver. Considering the current tight fiscal deficit and the government’s stance on keeping business rates revenue neutral, we propose a phased reduction. This would involve decoupling the tax from inflation and then only allowing rental growth at each revaluation to determine growth in business rates revenue”, said David Jones. David has authored an opinion piece for Drapers discussing how Avison Young is endorsing Business Rates reform and how an overhaul must address concerns of inequity and in doing so, deliver further support for small businesses and the level of additional help that traditional bricks-and-mortar retailers have been calling for. This morning, we joined Liverpool City Council for its latest Developer’s Forum, hearing from the team about the exciting regeneration projects and investment opportunities that are coming forward. The pace of change across the city is really ramping up and as the council’s Strategic Property Partner, we are excited to be part of the story and helping to shape the schemes and neighbourhoods that are going to drive economic growth. Key focus points were on unlocking stalled sites, diversifying the housing stock and enhancing transport infrastructure to enhance the ‘liveability’ of the city. Financial markets reacted positively to the election victory announcement last Friday, with modest gains in the FTSE All Share and the pound/dollar exchange rate.
