A big thanks to the Centrica volunteer team for hacking with us (for good) at our recent CYF x Centrica hackathon. Attendees had some big issues to solve for CYF, and two crack tech-trained groups — Centrica volunteers and CodeYourFuture (CYF) graduates — joined forces to try to solve them. Three mixed teams worked on proof-of-concept solutions, guided by Christopher Livermore and Pedro G. After hours of lively collaboration (and a tasty lunch), they successfully presented their working demos in a session full of creative energy. CYF sincerely thanks the generous and fun-spirited Centrica volunteers for their expertise and problem-solving skills. The hackathon event was a hit with CYF graduates, who reported significant learning experiences. "I learned so much! My brain is SO full of new technical knowledge", said one CYF attendee. Special thanks to the following fantastic participating Centra staff: Christopher Livermore, Jack Dallas, Francesca Marchetti, Layla Agha, Janine Obiri (thanks for organising the event, too), Connor Ryan, Shayan Mahnam (CodeYourFuture graduate) and Shadi Safaee (CodeYourFuture graduate). The event was kindly hosted by CYF partner Cititec Talent. For future hackathon or partnership opportunities, please visit our website (codeyourfuture.io) or get in touch!

Capgemini in the UK has agreed new multi-year national partnership with CodeYourFuture (CYF) to help even more people launch careers in tech. We've learned a lot together in the past five years and are committed to continually improving the programme. From this year, we’ll offer introductory courses to coding and digital skills to complement the existing software development programme offered. And we'll now be supporting students across the UK – in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow. To celebrate this moment, Bethan Richmond, UK Digital Inclusion Programme Lead, spoke with two of those who know the programme best – Sonjide Hussain, a CYF graduate turned Capgemini project management specialist, and Wayne Alexander, a Capgemini functional consultant and CYF mentor. CodeYourFuture was on BBC Radio London last week! Liliana and Gayle did a fantastic job representing CYF and #techforgood in their approx. 10 minute interview. They are such a great team :) If you missed the show, Lili shared a link. The BBC will remove the archive in a few weeks, so why not listen soon? It is likely to brighten up your day.

Innovation for development | Social Innovation | Tech for Good

This week, Gayle Thompson-Igwebike and I had the most amazing and nerve-racking experience talking live with Jim Davis on BBC Radio London. We had a delightful time discussing how CodeYourFuture supported Gayle in her career transition into tech, the importance of being a role model, and how non-coders can become developers later in life. Thank you, Jim, for being such a gracious host and BBC Radio London for welcoming us in your studio! If you want to listen to our interview, the link is in the comments.

Vitalina's goals were clear when she came to the UK: improve her English, learn technical skills, make friends - and find a tech job. She needed more structured learning and support. She found this with the CodeYourFuture community. Read Vitalina's journey - how she overcame her language barriers and juggled full-time work to transform her career and land a developer role at Clear Channel UK. https://lnkd.in/e7_AudzM "The most valuable thing is support and feedback," Vitalina says. "Because when you're learning by yourself, you don't know how good you are or if you're going in the right direction or wrong." We hope you enjoy the read. Congratulations, Vitalina, on all your hard work; we are sure there is more success ahead of you!

CodeYourFuture Hosts their Annual Summit! Last Saturday, CodeYourFuture brought together 80 members from our Scotland, Manchester, London, and West Midlands communities for our annual summit. This year's event was especially exciting as it welcomed some of our remote volunteers for the first time! The summit was a day of collaboration and action. We discussed our program's future and brainstormed ideas for shaping our next cohorts. In addition, our trainees and recent graduates put their skills to the test with pair coding challenges. A huge thank you to SEESAW, our fantastic Manchester venue, for opening their doors on a Saturday to our global CodeYourFuture family! We also extend our gratitude to Caribbean Kitchen MCR for their amazing food! Check them out: https://lnkd.in/gWngjM4S
