She shared, "It was a pleasure to share thoughts on circularity in construction at this event, brilliantly chaired by Architecture Today. Circularity is becoming ever more prominent in development, and it’s clear from the discussion that all sectors of our industry are striving to learn quickly. About us
Vision: We craft inspiring and distinctive space where people thrive. Purpose: We design and curate long-life, low carbon, intelligent offices that contribute to London’s position as a leading global city. Values: We build long-term relationships. We lead by design. We act with integrity. Derwent London is the largest central London office focused REIT. We are a different kind of investor and developer; our reputation is built on decisive action in four crucial areas at the heart of our progressive business model. By championing advancements in design, sustainability, technology and people-centricity, we deliver inspiring and distinctive buildings where people thrive and communities grow together. As part of our desire to lead the industry in mitigating climate change, we have committed to becoming a net zero carbon business by 2030. In 2019, the Group became the first UK REIT to sign a Revolving Credit Facility with a 'green' tranche. At the same time, we also launched our Green Finance Framework and signed the Better Buildings Partnership's climate change commitment. We have science-based carbon targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Our investment portfolio now totals 5.4 million sq ft and is worth £4.9 billion. Landmark buildings in our portfolio include 1 Soho Place W1, 80 Charlotte Street W1, Brunel Building W2, White Collar Factory EC1, Angel Building EC1, 1+2 Stephen Street W1, Horseferry House SW1 and Tea Building E1. The success of our business is down to a dedicated team. We are a diverse group of highly skilled professionals with a range of perspectives and corporate experience. In January 2022, we were proud to announce that we had achieved the National Equality Standard - the UK's highest benchmark for equality, diversity and inclusion. In May 2023, we were recognised on the Sunday Times Best Places to Work list. By investing in our people, we invest in our business, ensuring we generate sustainable long-term value.

Now that summer has officially arrived, we revisit three key innovations behind #WhiteCollarFactory’s (refreshingly cool) design. The #IntelligentBuilding enables occupiers to maximise these features through an internal traffic-light system that tracks temperatures inside and outside of the building. 1. Sunlight and Wind Shield with Prouvé’s Master Motif: Hole-punched aluminium sheets inspired by the renowned French architect create a shield against sunlight and wind. 2. Natural Cooling with Openable Windows: One of the oldest engineering tricks in the book - 2m-high openable windows throughout the building allow 70% of the floor to be cooled naturally. 3. Efficient Energy Use with Concrete Core Cooling: Chilled water pipes embedded in the reinforced concrete structure reduce energy consumption and provide radiant cooling across the scheme. White Collar Factory EC1 has been shortlisted for an Architecture Today 2024 Award. The award is designed to showcase, celebrate and share knowledge about buildings that have stood the test of time. It was a pleasure to welcome students of the Green Schools Project! Thank you to Helen J., our Community and Social Value Manager, for the introduction: “They, like us, are working towards a net zero carbon future through making better choices in our everyday lives.”
As part of our Zero Carbon Schools programme and in collaboration with Derwent London, pupils from William Tyndale Primary School and Beacon High School were invited to visit properties managed by Derwent London this term to find out more about what sustainability means to their business. The students are in the final stages of the projects they have designed and carried out to tackle food waste at their school as part of the Zero Carbon Schools Programme. Students visited the White Collar Factory and the Featherstone Building in Old Street, London. They had an interactive tour, explored the buildings' carbon footprints, learned about different sustainability initiatives and heard more about Derwent London's net zero plan for 2030. They even got a chance to plan their own Green Forum and presented their own carbon reduction projects to a captive audience. Recorra attended one of the visits, and heard first hand from Sustainability Consultant Hannah Shorter about how waste is managed sustainably at the buildings. The tour was a fun and creative way to get them thinking about how to inspire others with their projects and bringing to life what they've learned through Zero Carbon Schools. Derwent London's Social Value Manager, Helen J., said: “It was a pleasure to welcome [these students], and to hear how much they have learnt through The Green Schools Project’s Zero Carbon Schools programme. They, like us, are working towards a net zero carbon future through making better choices in our everyday lives.” Bethany Jamal at Green Schools Project said: "We are so grateful to Derwent London for its support of our Zero Carbon Schools programme and to Helen J. for organising and hosting the visits - the pupils loved it!" We are proud to announce that Derwent London has been awarded "Best Sustainable Office Design Studio 2024 - London" in the #BuildMagazineAwards. This accolade highlights our unwavering commitment to sustainability in design. A recent example of this dedication is our retrofit of #45WhitfieldStreet, W1. We honoured the building's 1970s origins while integrating sustainable elements, such as recycled furniture. Notably, dMFK Architects utilised reclaimed timber from a previous project, repurposing it with resin to craft bespoke kitchen benchtops for the Furnished + Flexible workspace. We are delighted to welcome Ireti Thomas, Chike Igwilo, Zoe Echanah and Sia Ellie from the The 10,000 Interns Foundation, who have joined us for a six week summer internship. The 10,000 Able Interns Programme was launched in 2022 following the success of the 10,000 Black Interns Programme to address the under-representation of disabled talent within UK industries, and we are pleased to be a part of these great schemes.
