๐ UPCOMING CABLES CONFERENCES This September, Global Underwater Hub, with the support of RenewableUK, is holding to two cables focused conferences in Bristol. Held on consecutive days, both events offer excellent opportunities to learn and network with industry colleagues. ๐ซ Tickets are on sale now. โผ Cables 2024 Taking place on Wednesday, 18 September, the annual conference brings together stakeholders from across the cables and energy industries. The conference will explore the opportunities and challenges in the subsea cables market around offshore energy and electricity interconnectors. Sessions will explore the offshore wind lifecycle, technological innovations and the UKโs market leading role in the sector. โผ Subsea Cable Insurance Conference & Workshop Following the success of last yearโs event, this conference on Thursday, 19 September features a workshop element in order to drive forward progress around the critical area of subsea cable reliability and insurability. This is your opportunity to join the discussion and share knowledge and expertise in order for the industry to collectively improve reliability and insurability of subsea cables, in turn mitigating the potential of failure and de-risk owning and operating these critical assets for offshore wind. Two-day ticket options are available, which includes an evening reception at Bristol Aquarium on Wednesday, 18 September. ๐ An early bird booking discount is available until Wednesday, 21 August. ๐ฑ For more information on both events, and to book, visit the events section of the GUH website and follow the relevant links - https://lnkd.in/erCUWa_4. #GlobalUnderwaterHub #GUHevents #AccessConnectGrow #Cables2024 #GUHCableInsurance #subseacables #cablesconferences #cableinsurance #subseacableinsurance #insurance #offshorerenewables #offshorewind #Bristolevents #Bristolconferences

An insightful visit today for some of the Global Underwater Hub team to Scotlandโs largest berthage port, Port of Aberdeen. Interesting to learn from Kieran Morton about the scale of the portโs facilities and that in handling around 6,900 vessels last year it is Scotlandโs busiest port. It is also embracing new autonomous vessels in the harbour, but has had to establish policies for their operation. A member of Global Underwater Hub, this 888-year-old institution is the UKโs oldest business, but has an exciting future, with planned investments to better accommodate growth industries, including offshore renewables, and meet net-zero goals. Along with being treated to a birdโs eye view of port operations, a tour of port facilities showed the breadth of industries it supports, including oil and gas, offshore renewables, decommissioning, timber exports and tourism. #GlobalUnderwaterHub #PortofAberdeen #AccessConnectGrow #portsandharbours #vessels #investment #autonomy

Always inspiring, Global Underwater Hubโs annual STEM Challenge initiative this year saw over 320 pupils from nearly 50 schools across the UK participate in six regional heats in Inverness, Glasgow, Manchester, Blyth, Bristol and Southampton. The winners of each heat then travelled to Aberdeen for the grand final, which included a visit to the offices of leading geo-data specialist Fugro. This yearโs final was won by a team from Millburn Academy, Inverness, who beat peers from St Ninians High School, Giffnock, Middleton Technology School in Manchester, Queen Ethelburgas College, York, Chilton Trinity School located in Bridgewater, Somerset, and St Oscar Romero Catholic School from Worthing in West Sussex. The competition sees the pupils test their science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills to design, build, code, operate and market a small, wheeled model ROV made from LEGO SPIKE sets. Pupils also have the opportunity to develop existing skillsets, build teamworking, encourage public speaking and improve confidence. For some pupils, competing in the national final is also their first trip away from home. Staging the competition would not be possible without the support of our delivery partner, educational charity The Smallpeice Trust, sponsors and partners. The 2024 STEM Challenge was sponsored by OPITO, Fugro, J+S Subsea, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Subsea Innovation, Subsea7, Venterra Group and Viper Innovations Ltd. GUH also greatly appreciates the support of Loganair Limited, British Airways, Village Hotels Kingswells, RS Coaches and Westhill Taxis. With school prizegiving season in full swing, we look back to Subsea Expo when Mintlaw Academy was presented with a 2023 Presidentโs Award by outgoing president of the SUT - Society for Underwater Technology, Moya Crawford. The joint award was given to Ali Hynd, deputy principal at the north-east school, in recognition of his mentoring of young people in technology and life skills, with a particular emphasis on underwater technology and sustainable, responsible business practice. This is something that is clearly illustrated through the schoolโs Mintlaw ROV initiative. Pupils involved in the ROV project, which has seen a rolling cohort of students design and build fully operational ROVs, received the award to recognise the technical skills and peer mentoring skills that they have developed. It also acknowledge the enthusiasm and professionalism the youngsters have shown whilst working on the project. #GlobalUnderwaterHub #SubseaExpo #MintlawROV #SUTPresidentsAward #underwatertechnology #underwaterindustry #engineering #youngengineers #ROVs

GUH Business Survey 2024 | Enabling Commitment It is the final few days to complete our annual business survey, which is once again gauging the thoughts and opinions of companies working across the underwater industry. Your opinion matters and your contribution will once again help to inform, influence and assist decision making across the spectrum of underwater industry stakeholders. The 2024 survey focuses on commitment, something that sits at all levels and stages of the lifecycle of a project. From Global Underwater Hubโs 2023 survey, which examined the capability, capacity and confidence of the industry to deliver planned projects, it was apparent that a key enabler for these is commitment. โพ Commitment drives confidence, rewards capability and provides the necessary surety on what capacity is needed. โพ Commitment involves all stakeholders, from legislators and policy makers, to operators, financiers and suppliers. โพ Commitment can be a key driver to unlocking market opportunities. โพ Commitment is what ultimately produces purchase orders. Do you think there is enough commitment from those at the policy, consenting, finance and investment stages of projects? Our survey provides an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, help inform future thinking and build a picture of how the industry views the level of commitment currently offered by its stakeholders. ๐ Please take time to complete the survey, which closes on Monday, 01 July. ๐ฒ Complete the survey: https://lnkd.in/eQUetwWU #GlobalUnderwaterHub #AccessConnectGrow #GUHBusinessSurvey #Underwaterindustry #EnablingCommitment #energyindustry #oilandgas #offshorewind #renewableenergy
