In a recent article on TechRadar Pro, our Chief Product Officer Andy Wiggan shed light on the upcoming roll-out of commercial Variable Recurring Payments (VRPs). Open banking has the potential to create a lower-cost alternative to card schemes while improving the payment journey for payers, but there are some challenges to address first. 🏦 The perception of open banking needs to be changed, from a compliance obligation to an exciting new business opportunity. 📉 Merchants need to be financially incentivised, meaning fees should be lower than current card acceptance costs. 🗺 More clarity is needed on next steps so the open banking ecosystem can allocate resources accordingly, which will make the path for commercial VRPs clearer. In February we launched the second cohort of our women in leadership programme, Propel. The goal is to support women at GoCardless to not only progress into leadership roles, but also to enable a smooth transition by building the right capabilities ahead of time. 🤝 💬 Four months later, we are thrilled to see the impact the programme has already had, and hear insights from one of the participants, Lauren Anderson: "I am humbled to have had the opportunity to take part in such an amazing programme, spending time with like-minded, and quite frankly incredible, women. Using the lenses of 'self', 'team' and 'GoCardless', we have considered what makes a high impact leader, our sources of energy, how to build a psychologically safe workplace, the power of self-compassion, the importance of a shared direction, and so much more!"
