We recently celebrated out 188th birthday and a lot has changed since six lawyers founded the company back in 1836. Our aim to build a better society has been present for as long as we have, together with the passion of our employees – all 11,500 of them! We are pleased to have participated in Cambridge Electric Cement latest £2.25m seed fundraise for their world-first process for making low carbon, recycled cement. Having supported Cambridge Electric Cement from their establishment to date, we are delighted to see fellow investors recognising the high potential of their innovative offering. The built environment requires substantial change to reduce emissions and reach net zero, and this challenge is a huge opportunity for institutional investors like Legal & General. We're halfway through our three-year partnership with financial education charity RedSTART, and it's been brilliant to have over 350 kids from primary schools visit our offices and learn about money – how to earn it, how to invest it and how to save it. RedSTART’s mission is to improve financial literacy in primary school children, equipping them with the financial awareness that they’ll need to handle their money. We believe that the seeds for long-term financial wellbeing should be planted early, so that all children, regardless of their background, are able to make informed decisions throughout their lives and into retirement. Working with RedSTART, we’ve recently hosted 14 financial education workshops with over 100 L&G volunteers helping to run the sessions. We are pleased to announce that our affordable housing business, Legal & General Affordable Homes, has acquired 390 Shared Ownership homes Orbit Group for nearly £35m. The acquisition has been funded by Legal & General’s Institutional Retirement division forming part of its ambitions to increase its investment into the Affordable Housing sector.   Against an acute shortage of affordable housing in the UK, Shared Ownership will support more people get on the property ladder, combining owning and renting in an affordable way. Legal & General is supporting the delivery of much needed affordable housing while enabling housing associations that we partner with to direct their capital towards local needs.        The homes are distributed across 32 local authorities, spreading across the North and South Home Counties, the East and West Midlands, and Norfolk.   Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/e9VZdzzH
