When your body’s trying to tell you something, it’s never a good idea to ignore it – but many men with health issues carry on as normal, until it’s too late. Symptoms including tiredness, reduced libido, and erectile dysfunction can sometimes be signs of something more serious, so how can we encourage men to take a proactive approach to looking after their health? Last week, Numan’s Head of Medical, Dr Luke Pratsides, joined the Man Up / Man Down podcast to share his perspectives on how men can engage in their health earlier. Together with hosts Volker Ballueder and David Pawsey, Luke touched on some of the key issues in men’s health – and the work we’re doing at Numan to address them: 1. It’s time to move from reactive to proactive: helping men to engage early is essential to catching and treating serious conditions before they progress – but healthcare systems aren’t set up in this way 2. Support can’t be confined purely to treating clinical symptoms: healthcare can end up singularly focusing on clinical needs, and not on men’s emotional and practical needs, which can hinder treatment and recovery. 3. Overcoming men’s reluctance to seek out care: There are so many reasons why men delay seeking proper advice and support – if we’re going to improve outcomes, we need to offer support that’s more convenient, and less intimidating, to access. These are the things we spend a lot of time thinking about at Numan – and they’ve shaped our offer of accessible, convenient, continuous support that helps men to better understand and engage with their health. We've built up some insight over the years on how digital technology has influenced the landscape of healthcare. So it was great to see our very own Marguerite Vernes at HLTH Europe in Amsterdam yesterday, discussing the topic "Like & prescribe: the rise of social media in health". The expert panel of Dr. James Somauroo, Peter Rezkalla, Valerie Storms, PhD, and Samira Mousa debated the transformative power of social media in de-stigmatising #obesity as a disease and normalising medicated treatments, versus the challenges it poses in spreading misinformation. Looking forward, the potential for social media to further revolutionise healthcare is immense. It can serve as a critical tool for education, advocacy, and community building, driving forward the conversation around obesity and other health issues. #HealthInnovation #ObesityAwareness #MedicatedWeightManagement #SocialMediaInHealth

How do we make sure the we're healthier in 2030 than we are today? That was the question our incredible panel attempted to answer during a lively discussion hosted at Numan HQ last night. We’ve reached a critical moment in health: obesity is rising, hormonal, reproductive and mental health is on the decline – and yet we're generally very reactive still in our healthcare, and men are more likely to delay seeking medical help until an issue develops into a serious problem. So, right now, what are our options – and what’s stopping us doing things differently? ⚫️ Tackling obesity is paramount for society as a whole: the links between obesity and other chronic diseases are well established. The work we put into reducing levels of obesity now could mean men are healthier in the future. New medicines have a role to play: weight loss drugs like semaglutide could help us reach obesity goals – so long as they’re used in the right way by those who truly need them. ⚫️ Measurement: the advancing tech of wearables and increasing prevalence of diagnostics not only means better forewarning of health issues, it also has a behavioural impact of getting people to adopt better habits. All positive steps in the journey to preventative healthcare. ⚫️ Empathy is everything: If we’re going to change when and how men seek advice and treatment, healthcare needs to create a safe space without stigma, shame or judgement. Thanks to everyone who came, especially our brilliant panellists – Benjamin Davis Sam Rider Lily Elsner (of Jack Fertility) David Pawsey (of the Man Up / Man Down podcast) – who joined our CEO Sokratis Papafloratos and host Jessica Somauroo to share their views. #MensHealth #health #fitness #obesity #Numan

📈 Obesity and associated conditions (like diabetes and heart failure) are on the rise – but there is hope. Medicines designed to help patients living with type 2 diabetes (Ozempic), or to lose weight in an achievable, sustainable way (Wegovy) have quickly become well-known and are already helping patients to improve their health. Both of these treatments rely on semaglutide – a drug described as ‘game changing’ by scientists, and which studies have shown may have other other benefits to patients, such as reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Now other drugs are coming to market – from oral semaglutide (pill form), to retatrutide – a potentially more powerful treatment. But with so many options on offer, it’s not always easy for patients to know which one is right for them. Alongside other clinical experts, Numan’s Head of Medical Dr Luke Pratsides spoke to the Telegraph this month to help bust-some myths and bring clarity to the conversation around these medicines. https://lnkd.in/eth_pbUu

Who says men don’t take their health seriously? Speaking on a panel at the SomX Healthtech Talks event last week, our CEO Sokratis Papafloratos challenged the stereotype of the man who isn’t interested in learning more about his body or how to look after his health. In an in-depth conversation, which asked whether access to information has become the new gatekeeper of care, Sokratis pointed to a wealth of evidence that shows: ⚫️ More and more men are taking a keen interest in their health and that of their partners – and are looking for reliable sources of information to help guide them ⚫️ YouTube and similar platforms are becoming a go-to for men looking for reliable content to help them better understand their health and make positive changes ⚫️ Men’s increasing understanding of their health and bodies is driving real demand for expert support and proven, effective treatment for common conditions It’s because of this demand that Numan exists. We help men access personalised insights into their own health, as well as access to the advice and treatments they need to optimise their health. Thank you to Sokratis’s fellow panelists for the discussion – Flo Health Inc.'s Dr Anna Klepchukova, GP partner and content creator Dr Dr Simi Adedeji, and SomX’s Jessica Somauroo. #MensHealth #health #healthinformation #healthcare

Today marks a significant milestone at Numan. We started in 2018, born of a belief our founder Sokratis Papafloratos had in the power of technology to transform health and wellbeing. Since then, we’ve helped over 500,000 patients across a range of conditions. We’ve broken taboos, created one of the most distinctive and trusted healthcare brands, and shaken up the traditional ways of patients getting the treatments they need. Today, we share with you how the Numan brand has evolved to create a sharper, richer, and more enjoyable patient experience. We’ve fine-tuned every detail, from colours to imagery to fonts and beyond. We’ve updated our app, tweaked our product names, and transformed our packaging. As well as this we’ve made our website a more cohesive experience, easier to navigate from one treatment area to the other, as well a deeper and richer experience from a content point-of-view. Our mission remains to empower everyone to lead healthier, happier, and longer lives - just with a bit of a spruce up.

Today on #worldobesity day we feel it’s important to reflect on the leaps forward that have been made in the treatment of #obesity in the last year, with the release of #wegovy and #mounjaro. Access to these treatments has demonstrated that the old adage of “eat less” and “exercise more”, does not work for many people. Weight loss is complex and multifactorial and whilst diet and exercise play an important role, the hormonal regulation of appetite through GLP-1 and GIP is absolutely key, alongside genetics and ever more emerging evidence of the significant role of the gut microbiome. At Numan we have seen large numbers of patients who report having tried all kinds of diet and exercise plans in the past, before wanting to try medication as their final resort. We’re proud that the majority of these patients are achieving excellent results in weight loss and all the incumbent benefits that go with it: reduced risk of heart attacks, strokes and cancer, alongside improved self esteem and motivation to continue healthier lifestyle habits. The results from the SELECT trial published in 2023 further support the benefits of #semaglutide in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events in overweight and obese patients. It is of course important to remember that there is no “magic bullet” in fighting obesity, and medications like #wegovy and #mounjaro should never be relied on alone, but rather as part of a holistic weight loss programme that includes clinical care, as well as lifestyle coaching to support the building of long-term healthy habits. At Numan we are proud to be increasing access to obesity treatment, and to be a partner for our patients as they fight their own obesity journey.  #worldobesityday #wegovy #mounjaro #novonordisk #elililly #digitalhealth
