#FlashbackFriday to when we organised a panel to discuss ethnic and socioeconomic representation in Bristol and the South West 👇 Our event outside of London saw us heading westward to Simmons & Simmons in Bristol to discuss the SW real estate sector with Tim Clark from Property Week, Caroline Turner-Inskip from Simmons & Simmons, Kate Craig Waller from Granger Reis, Simon Peacock from JLL, Lionah K. from Black Women in Real Estate and Arcadis and Jas Chahil from LGIM. Tim covered the conversation extensively in Property Week which you can read all about here: https://lnkd.in/e-uYNpgD #RealEstate #Diversity #Inclusion

Non-profit membership organisation campaigning for diversity and inclusion in the real estate industry
About us
Real Estate Balance was originally set up by a group of women and men in the real estate industry to address the gender imbalance at senior levels in property organisations. Diversity and inclusion have always been at the core of everything we do and from the outset we have welcomed a mixed membership of people who want to create workplaces where everyone has a chance to reach their full potential. Through our work we have recognised that similar issues of perception and cultural bias affect many others in society and we are now focused on improving diversity and inclusion for all and driving change where it is needed. We work from the top down with business leaders to change corporate cultures and from the bottom up with individuals to break down barriers to entry to the property industry and develop a diverse and talented pipeline of people. We welcome businesses and individuals to join us and commit to working towards a better balanced property industry.

We held a roundtable on hybrid working with 18 Real Estate Balance members and produced a summary of the discussion with relevant resources to share best practice and also guidance on common challenges when it comes to hybrid working. Since then, the Commission on Hybrid and Remote Work, which was set up to examine and make recommendations on how the government can respond to the rise in hybrid and remote working to the advantage of people, communities, and the broader UK economy, has published its latest findings and recommendations. You can read all about it here: https://lnkd.in/eFz_8Ufw #Hybridworking #HybridWork #Work #EDI

"My job now is one of guardianship and growth, building on everything that has already been achieved." - Jo Davis One of our good growth goals at Real Estate Balance under our new chair Jo's leadership is to grow our membership and reach. We want to continue to grow our membership because it is only by working collaboratively across the industry – sharing best practice and tackling key issues together – that we can truly create lasting change, making real estate representative of our society. This will allow us to continue to transform #RealEstate into the open, diverse, and inclusive industry it deserves to be. ❓Ready to be part of the growing movement progressing diversity and inclusion in real estate? Talking accent bias at UKREiiF 👇💡 We worked with our Real Estate Balance members and EG to hold a panel discussion on accent bias on the Transforming Government Property Pavilion at this year’s UKREiiF conference. We brought together the property professionals listed below and pictured above (from left to right) who represent different countries and regions of the UK to share their experiences and insights into accent and how it can impact careers: Tim Burke – Deputy Editor, EG (moderator) Rav Cheema – Associate Director, Estates Efficiency, LocatED, and REB Policy and Campaigns Committee member Paula McLeay – Programme Director for Places for Growth, Cabinet Office Emma Guthrie – Partner, Property and Infrastructure, Shepherd and Wedderburn, and REB NextGen Committee co-Chair and our very own Sue Brown – REB Managing Director Their conversation was fascinating and you can read a full report on it here: https://lnkd.in/ehTkiVgt #RealEstate #Property #DiversityMatters

We thought it would be good to update our followers with the Real Estate Balance's NextGen Committee's new focus going forward. The Real Estate Balance NextGen Committee represents the up-and-coming generation of real estate and associated sector professionals and is a key part of our mission to further equity, diversity, and inclusion in our industry. The committee will now focus its work on the findings of their survey research in three distinct areas: ▪️Barriers to entry and widening access to the industry ▪️Supporting the development of talent ▪️ Developing inclusive cultures Look out for our updates on their activities in these areas over the next 18 months as we are sure there will be lots of opportunities for members to get involved. We are also very pleased to announce that the Committee have two new co-Chairs going forward, joining Emma Guthrie, Real Estate Partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn, who has been jointly and brilliantly leading NextGen since November last year. Our two new co-chairs will be: Kevin Boakye, Talent Acquisition and DEI Specialist at Hines and Jasmine Ceccarelli-Drewry, Senior Advisor, Strategic Advisory at Montagu Evans Watch this space! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 #RealEstate #Property #NextGen

It was lovely to have our MD Sue Brown speak at AREF (The Association of Real Estate Funds) Conference this week. The topic was 'Tackling Diversity in the Industry'. It was an insightful discussion over breakfast with fellow speakers Natalie Gill from PGIM, Joshua Bond from Bond Land, and Sophie Reguengo from Ogier. We hope that lots of Real Estate Balance members will be back next year! #RealEstate #Property #DEI
