🌍 A new definition of progress: insights from Kate Raworth 📈 Last year we were delighted to have Kate Raworth deliver our opening keynote. This year we are building on her key themes with a number of fantastic keynotes focusing on establishing an economy that is regenerative, distributive by design, and lives within the planetary boundaries. In this week's The Guardian, Kate challenges conventional notions of progress on a planet pushed to its limits. Relying solely on GDP as a measure of success is no longer feasible in an era where ecological boundaries are strained and social inequalities persist. 🌱 Drawing from her groundbreaking concept of the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL), it is time for a holistic approach to economic development - one that prioritises both planetary boundaries and human well-being. [London Climate Action Week!] These past two days, we attended Reset Connect, the flagship event for London Climate Week, which brings together leaders and innovators to drive forward #climateaction and #sustainablesolutions. Our Corporate Lead, Marguerite Delormel, spoke on the Net Zero stage to share our mission with farmers and corporates, explaining how we are revolutionising and regenerating the food system's #supplychain. 🌱 There were multiple engaging talks in the #FoodSystem Hub. The three main topics discussed were: the essential role of soil health, strategies for engaging suppliers in the agricultural food value chain, and how #regenag is the solution for climate change. #regenerativeagriculture

It's good to be reminded what all this work in sustainability is about. Reset Connect are showing a short documentary inspired by the BBC documentary, Wild Isles. The film focuses on nature-based solutions' role in combatting the climate crisis, how investors can do more to protect nature, and 'how we can bank on a wilder tomorrow'. Did you know that the UK has lost 70% of its ancient woodland, 90% of its wetlands, and 97% of its wildflower meadows? Without the damage being undone we won't have a buffer to help us with climate change, nature will no longer be able to clean our air and water and our food and agriculture systems will likely collapse. The good news is that this can be fixed. It's estimated that there is currently $400 trillion in capital in the financial system globally. It's also estimated that to restore nature would cost $11 trillion globally; a tiny fraction. It'll likely cost more the longer we leave it, too. There are many business cases for doing this, too. The one that stuck with me is that 37% of climate mitigation or adaptation will come from nature. You can also say that it's the right thing to do. Lots of food for thought as we start planning our Green Finance UK event later in the year. I'll leave a link to watch the film in the comments...
