🔺 UPDATE: The Welsh first minister Vaughan Gething has been forced out of office after four members of his government quit in protest at his leadership. Gething, who became Britain’s first black national leader three months ago, said he would “begin the process of stepping down as leader of the Welsh Labour Party and first minister”. His decision followed the co-ordinated resignations of four Welsh cabinet ministers, who told him they couldn’t do the job they were elected to do “without you standing down”

Ocado Group has nudged up its cash flow and earnings forecasts even as some key retail customers pause the introduction of its automated warehouse technology. The FTSE 100 online retailer and technology company said it expected annual underlying cash flow to improve by £150 million, up from a previous estimate of £100 million

On Wed the King's Speech will include a Mental Health Bill to end this kind of long term detention for learning disabled & autistic people. There are currently 2,025 autistic people with learning disabilities detained in England - more than 10% of all people under Mental Health Act restrictions. I spoke to Bethany's Dad who told me Bethany is now "living her best life" after moving into a bungalow as a tenant of her own home in January. She has an acre and a half of space and three carers with her at any one time. Expensive, but cheaper than a forensic mental health ward. Jeremy has now given up his job as a teacher and is working as an expert by experience on care and treatment reviews. He has done over 200 now and see's the same issues. Jeremy said he believes most of the 2,000 detained in hospital people could live in the community if they were properly supported. He said: “Hospital is never the right answer. The biggest barrier is lack of provision in the community. It's not just about opening the hospital door it's about that social care provision. “Without that it goes wrong and people are very quickly readmitted. I have seen people who have been in hospital for over 20 years.” While he welcomed the new legislation planned by Labour, Jeremy said this could only be one part of a solution that will also need investment in community care. He is also worried that clinicians who don’t appreciate autism and learning disability will continue to find ways to detain people using spurious diagnoses. “I'm already seeing other diagnoses creeping in as part of my reviews,” he said adding: “There are mental health diagnoses being attached to people who are autistic. One I have seen is EUPD, or emerging unstable personality disorder, it is a huge worry.” If doctors diagnose a patient with a mental health condition they would still be subject to the Mental Health Act and potentially be detained. “We're going to need to be very very careful,” said Jeremy. #mentalhealth #autism #learningdisabilities #NHSEngland
