It was an absolute honour to have Jess Phillips MP attend our National Conference 2024 – and to have her be a part of Women’s Aids 50th birthday celebrations. Her passionate speech about the urgent need for change to protect women and girls was truly inspiring. It was a pleasure to have Jess and truly insightful to hear her insights into Labour’s commitment to halve VAWG in a decade – together we can #EndAbuseTogether

We’re thrilled Keir Starmer recognised the incredible work of our Patron Mel B in yesterday’s parliamentary speech. Whilst we welcome plans to halve #VAWG in the next decade, our new government must demonstrate urgent action to support specialist services and #endabusetogether. The proudest moment as our Women's Aid Federation of England Patron Mel B became Dr Melanie Brown MBE in recognition of her long-term domestic abuse campaigning and incredible career, as a role model to those in Leeds and beyond. Thank you Leeds Beckett University for both the honour and for a wonderful day with your team and Melanie's very proud family.

Survivors of domestic abuse need urgent support. Here's what we need from the King's Speech on Wednesday to make that happen.

Disabled women supported by Women’s Aid’s No Woman Turned Away Project (NWTA) experience very high barriers to accessing refuge. Our Nowhere to Turn report 2024 details the findings from the eighth year of NWTA, which provides support and advocacy to women facing additional barriers to accessing refuge or other safe accommodation. The report builds on our evidence base on the structural inequalities that many survivors face and makes evidence-based recommendations for key stakeholders.
