Innovation is central to the transition to net zero, and the financial sector is not immune to this. To best support our clients in their transition, banks must continue to evolve. I discussed with Peter Cripps the areas at the frontier that Barclays is exploring, in particular: * Developing transition finance, essential for the decarbonisation of hard to abate, high-emitting sectors * Addressing the financing gaps faced by climate technology companies where collaboration with governments, business and industry to find solutions is key We know that we don’t have all the answers. In today's hybrid working environment, where digital communication has become the norm, it's easy to overlook the value of face-to-face interactions. However, the simple act of meeting a colleague for coffee can have a profound impact on our professional relationships and overall well-being. Someone who I really value catching up with in person is my colleague from Mauritius, Sujata Retif. Whenever she’s in South Africa, we make sure to catch up over a coffee. Despite the convenience of email and MS Teams, there's something irreplaceable about the personal touch that comes from seeing each other in person. These moments remind us that behind every message or video call, there's a human connection waiting to be nurtured. The importance of maintaining connections and relationships with colleagues cannot be overstated. In-person meetings allow us to build trust, share experiences beyond the screen, and create a sense of belonging that fuels collaboration and innovation. In our last coffee catch up, Sujata shared a great idea on calendar sharing that her team had come up with to help us be a more inclusive and collaborative Risk Function, which we recently launched to colleagues. So let's not underestimate the power of a coffee catch-up or a casual in-person chat. The next time an opportunity arises to meet a colleague face-to-face, embrace it. It might just be the connection we need to spark a new idea, deepen a professional bond, or simply brighten someone's day.

Reflecting on last week’s London Climate Action Week, I’m reminded not only of how dynamic London is as a leading hub for sustainable finance, but also the many exciting companies and organizations across our global economy that are scaling climate solutions.     It has been a great opportunity to connect with business, government, academic and NGO leaders. To advance a low-carbon future, we need companies delivering innovation, investors mobilizing capital and policymakers engaged on pragmatic and enabling frameworks.     While there are too many highlights to name, a few themes stood out for me:     - At the fantastic Breakthrough Energy Summit, leaders accelerating clean energy shared insights on how they are transforming our global economy and energy systems, tackling some of the toughest challenges, harnessing technology and bringing solutions to scale.     - Transition finance was a frequent and important discussion - how can finance help decarbonize ‘hard to abate’ sectors while also preserving energy security and affordability, and driving economic growth? The right conditions in the real economy are also critical for making the transition economically viable. This is a huge challenge and a massive opportunity, and getting the right frameworks are absolutely key.     Thanks London for the whirlwind week!

Standard Chartered's Q1 2024 results demonstrate the value of our unique franchise. In particular, our Wealth Solutions and Deposits income are up 23% and 14%, respectively. This is on the back of our focus on NTB Affluent clients, International Banking to leverage our network and drive to bring in Net New Money. In Q1 we sustained our momentum in onboarding 62k new-to-bank affluent clients and doubling of affluent net new money. Continued innovation across our wealth product suite, building our advisory platform/journey’s as well as research capability enables us to fulfill clients' evolving wealth needs. I am also pleased that our own Signature CIO Funds launched late 2022 have crossed USD1 bn net sales as of April 2024.
