Ordnance Survey has published the latest iteration of Boundary Line, following the recent review of Parliamentary Constituencies by UK's National Boundary Commission. Ahead of the upcoming Local and General Elections due in 2024, anyone can access Ordnance Survey’s election maps, and find the electoral boundaries across Great Britain and Northern Ireland. OS offers a free-to-use online service, where anyone can explore the electoral geography of the UK, and locate electoral boundaries quickly and easily. Visit Election Maps on our website to launch an interactive map of Great Britain (GB) or Northern Ireland (NI), and select the boundaries you need. Are #gis now unable to reach a valuable solution for the council road sign market? The Telegraph (and Have I Got News for you) reported that North Yorkshire Council scraps apostrophes on street signs. It said punctuation mark negatively affects geographical databases but residents call for it to be retained. A possible lesson in product, product market fit and optimization here? GIS (Geographic Information System) software has been around for many decades and only now the consumer is being impacted. Are these companies rolling out to production before understanding the impact on the end user? #productmanagement #usability #value #experiment #testing

Northern depths. This thematic map fuses data from National Library of Scotland Loch bathymetric maps created during a large scale survey orchestrated by Sir John Murray and Ordnance survey NGD waterbody polygons. The maximum depth of each Loch was taken from the maps and visualised through geometries, classified using Jenks to highlight clusters of depths across North-west Scotland. The legend gleams style from the bathymetric maps and includes a custom scalebar and depth data. I tried to encapsulate the environment on the edge of the Atlantic by fading out the Scotland into the Ocean and by experimenting with ripple effects around Lochs to accentuate depth. 🌱 Introducing RMAVIS, our new R Shiny application for assigning vegetation plot data to to GB National Vegetation Classification (NVC) communities. It succeeds MAVIS, the most recent application for NVC assignment used by researchers, ecologists and NGOs across the UK. RMAVIS provide additional exploratory analyses including correspondences to other habitat classifications, diversity metrics, average environmental indicator values, summaries of compositional change, and multivariate analysis. RMAVIS also includes an updated dataset of NVC communities, courtesy of the Floodplain Meadows Partnership We plan to update and improve RMAVIS over time and hope that it will act as a useful tool for the GB ecology and conservation community.
