Lifted Entertainment is home to some of the biggest TV shows in the world.From talent shows like The Voice UK to quizzes such as University Challenge and reality formats including Love Island and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. UNIVERSITY CHALLENGE is looking for a Talent Pool of Question Writers to work on the next series of this iconic show.

The role

Writing questions (to be submitted in batches of 35 starters and 30 bonus sets) in accordance with the editorial brief of University Challenge, in terms of style, difficulty and subject matter, and with a high degree of factual accuracy.

The Responsibilities For The Role Are

  • Writing a number of questions as agreed with the team
  • Responding to requests for edits and re-writing of questions in a timely fashion

Skills You’ll Need (minimum Criteria)

  • Familiarity with the programme, its format, and its editorial aims.
  • Strong and broad general knowledge, with one or more areas of particular expertise/interest that fit the programme's current needs.
  • Research experience in either an academic or professional context
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely to a brief, with a high degree of factual accuracy.
  • Demonstrable interest in issues of representation and participation relative to the programme, and an understanding of the role played by question writers in this.
  • Clear and demonstrable understanding of the format and style of questioning on University Challenge (this will be tested during the recruitment process).
  • Must have a degree at BA Hons level, or equivalent certification.

Other Things We’re Looking For (key Criteria)

  • A clear, distinctive 'voice' as a question writer, demonstrating imagination and originality in response to the programme's editorial brief.
  • Experience of question writing, either for television or in an amateur quizzing context.
  • Experience of factual writing in a professional context.
  • Experience of fact-checking/factual research in a professional or academic context.
  • Familiarity with current teaching curricula at university and secondary school level in stated areas of expertise (eg. your child attends/recently attended university, you’re a lecturer/teacher etc.)
  • Recent experience of working with university students, and awareness of ongoing cultural conversations regarding representation and access in this context.
  • Organised and deadline-focused approach to managing own workload.
