Senior leaders have a crucial role in setting the culture and environment of any organisation. According to Deloitte, the behaviour of senior executives and managers can directly increase feelings of inclusion by up to 70%. For working carers, this can make the world of difference - which is why we were delighted to discuss the importance of supporting working carers with Gavin Wood and the WHSmith team. Allowing carers to be transparent around their commitments outside of the workplace benefits everyone, and with the majority of us likely to provide care before we retire, conversations like this are vital. #inclusion #retail #belonging

The annual State of Caring survey is the most extensive survey into carers’ experiences in the UK. Last year over 11,000 carers shared their experiences and we want to reach even more this year! This year's survey launched last week and would be really grateful for you and your organisation’s help in encouraging carers to take part. As we approach a UK General Election, it is vital to use carers' voices to campaign for change. The more data and information the survey collects, the better recommendations Carers UK can make to support carers up and down the country. Access the survey below, and share far and wide: https://lnkd.in/eJ-yeTyR #carers #data #election

"There is no sign at all that the policy is being exploited: on average colleagues are taking just over one day of leave a year." Brilliant insights from Ariam Enraght-Moony showcase how going beyond the statutory support for working carers isn't just the right thing to do - it makes business sense. TSB's leave provision is one of the best in the UK, enabling them to keep hold of their most experienced staff, leading to quantifiable improvements to retention. Massive congratulations to Angela Gibson, FCIPD and the whole team at TSB Bank for being an exemplary employer for carers, Carer Confident Ambassador and setting an example for others to follow. #industryleader #inclusion #carers #carersleave

As #CarersWeek comes to a close, it offers the chance to reflect on how we recognise caring within our society. Over 600 people leave work every day to care, often due to lack of support in their workplace. The consequent loss of their skills, talent and productivity also creates significant costs for employers, to the detriment of both parties. Furthermore, carer-friendly employers such as Centrica, who see estimated yearly savings of over £3.1 million through greater support for their carers, showcase how both carers and organisations benefit from being carer-friendly. With the UK heading towards an elderly population, and over 90% of social care leaders reporting a state of crisis, organisations must future proof themselves by thinking about caring in the workplace. #inclusion #equality #carers

Stark research released this #carersweek by Carers UK highlights 53% of current and former carers said caring had a negative impact on their physical health, and 63% said the same for their mental health. Not only does this make caring more difficult, but it can impact carers’ ability to continue or return to work. With carers estimated to save the UK economy £162 billion a year, sometimes at a cost to their own health, it is more important than ever to support their wellbeing. If you were to quantify the value of informal care provided in the UK, it would be the equivalent of another NHS. Our society simply wouldn’t exist in its current form without carers. #research #carers #wellbeing #nochoice

Today is the beginning of Carers Week 2024, with a focus on ‘putting carers on the map’. 2024 is the first Carers Week where all carers have the opportunity to take statutory leave for their caring responsibilities. However, three quarters of people who are providing, or have provided, unpaid care said they do not identify as, or call themselves, a carer. Without awareness-raising events such as Carers Week, these individuals miss out on support and guidance they desperately need – such as the new Leave entitlement. This #CarersWeek we urge employers to showcase the support available to carers in their organisation, and ensure each carer is as valued and supported as possible. For organisations who would like to mark the week, utilise the free Carers Week logos, guides and social media graphics here: https://lnkd.in/eYN3Kxw3 Carers UK #workingcarers #employeewellbeing #inclusion

Less than a week to go until #carersweek kicks off! 'Putting carers on the map' is the theme for this year, where we want to make sure that the voices of unpaid carers are heard. It is essential that carers are recognised for the difficulties they are experiencing, respected for all they are doing, provided with information, and given the support they need to care safely. What are you doing as an employer to ensure that you are supporting carers? 1 in 7 people in the workforce are juggling work and care and so it is a population that cannot be ignored in the workplace. Pledge your support by getting involved in the celebrations: https://lnkd.in/eEBnSXEc Carers UK #unpaidcarers #carers #workingcarers
