Dangerous Heat in the Western U.S.; Flash Flooding Possible Across Portions of the South

High temperatures in the 90s to 100s and warm overnight temperatures will continue across parts of the Interior Northwest, central California, and the Great Basin. Thunderstorms and heavy rain may produce scattered flash flooding across much of the Southern Rockies into the Southwest, particularly over sensitive burn scars in New Mexico, and across the Southeast into the Carolinas. Temperatures will warm in the interior valleys this week, with high temperatures in the 100s and approaching 110 in some areas. Take extra care and stay hydrated this week!
Lewiston Dam restoration release flows are scheduled to impact the Trinity River through early next week. This means, despite the hot and dry weather conditions, the Trinity River may be a little swifter and colder than what's normal this time of year. Keep this in mind when visiting the Trinity river. Stay safe by wearing a life jacket for river activities. Find pools with slow moving water and avoid entering fast moving water, even if it seems shallow.
