Mayor Robert Reichert vetoes commission’s legislation request

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon Mayor Robert Reichert sent a letter to Macon-Bibb commissioners saying that he is vetoing the commission’s decision to request new legislation.

The legislation would give the commission the ability to overturn the mayor’s decision to discipline or fire a department head.

Mayor Reichert says the legislation makes it unclear to who is ultimately in charge and is detrimental to the success the consolidated government has seen in the last two years. He says the current system is working and there is no need to change.
