Second Impression, April 1924. Strikingly bound in pictorial orange cloth, featuring a classic pirate with his flintlock on the front boards. Very clean and tight throughout. With 9 illustrations in black and white by A.L. Ripley, including the frontispiece. This is the second edition with the statement: Second Impression, April, 1924. In a good plus dust jacket with the original price of $2.00 at the top of the inside front flap and the slug: "Second Edition" printed on the jacket spine, just beneath "Illustrated." Heavy chipping, edge-wear to the jacket as well as missing pieces at the corners and the top and bottom of the spine. With a small area of dampstain which blends into the drawing at the bottom of the front panel. The second edition seems to be scarce in the original jacket. "The Dark Frigate" won the Newbery Award in 1924. It was the third annual Newbery Medal and the first time it was awarded to a writer born in the U.S.
