Signed by the Author. Octavo, blue cloth (hardcover), 91 pp. Near Fine in a Near Fine, mylar protected dust jacket. From dust jacket: This book is about a lighthouse which was built on Cape Henlopen, Delaware in 1765 and fell from its precarious position, atop a shifting sand hill, and into the encroaching sea in 1926. In building a base so the reader may better understand lighthouses and their purpose the author begins at the beginning, and takes the reader from accounts of the earliest known lighthouses in the world to the building and fall of the Cape Henlopen. Lighted navigational aids may have been constructed on Cape Henlopen as early as 1630, but the permaanent stone structure built in 1765 was credited with being only the second oldest in the United States. Boston light built in 16 is credited with being the first in the United States. Delaware, Lighthouse. zslic.
