Bright, clean, square, tight, unmarked copy. Sharp corners. Not a book club edition. Not price clipped (23.00). No chips or tears. No remainder mark. No owner's name or bookplate. From Kirkus Reviews: "Attorney and mother of three, Ewing is the ex-wife of New York Knick Patrick Ewing. McCrary is an entertainment lawyer married to Seattle Supersonic Greg Anthony. Between them they have a homecourt advantage in telling the stories of basketball wives. The New York Flyers have never won an NBA championship trophy, though they've led the Eastern Conference for two years running. Now, management will sell the team and move it out of New York if they don't bring home a championship this year. The next six weeks of playoffs will be hell, with the players needing all the female comfort they can get. The story focuses less on the players than on the bonds holding their wives and girlfriends together: the coach's wife, Alexis Mitchell, skillful handler of the wives, who's much like a coach but as intent as her husband on the Flyers winning; newlywed attorney Casey Rogers, working 70 hours a week and married to the team's star forward Brent Rogers, who swears his fidelity to Casey and expects her to give up most of her legal work to care for him and his son by a former girlfriend." . Near Fine condition in a Near Fine dust jacket. Not price clipped ($27.95). No chips or tears. Bright, shiny, clean, square, tight, and unmarked. Not a book club edition. No owner's name or bookplate. No remainder mark. After a sparkling athletic career at Columbia University, Molinas became an NBA All-Star with the Fort Wayne Pistons. From the publisher: "Jack Molinas had it all -- good looks, charm, an Ivy League education, a genius-level I.Q. of 175, and a huge talent for the game of basketball. He was also a gambling addict with a flair for larceny. THE WIZARD OF ODDS chronicles the rise and fall of this outstanding NBA All-Star who fixed games, cavorted with the Mafia, produced pornographic films, and was eventually murdered. Author Charley Rosen chillingly probes the life of a man who understood better than anyone around him the weaknesses of the system in which he lived -- so much so that he convinced himself he could manipulate that system to his own ends with impunity. By the time he was arrested on January 9, 1954, for conspiring to fix NBA games, he was already deeply involved with the Mafia. After his release from prison, he would descend ever deeper into crime, a preoccupation that would end with a bullet in the head.". First Printing of the First Edition. Hardcover. From the Dust Jacket: "In a memoir at once deeply felt, lively, and astute, Bill Bradley talks about his life, his country, his role in government, and his hopes for the American future. He speaks with affection about his small-town Missouri upbringing and the values shaped by it. He traces his road from childhood to Princeton to Oxford to ten years of professional basketball to public service in the U.S. Senate. And he brings vividly alive the world of a senator -- the rocky road to legislation, the invasiveness of the media, the power of money. He tells us stories of scoundrels and heroes, of celebrated political figures past and present, and unheralded citizens. [It] is a book about life, filled with humor, moral lessons, and empathy for the human condition. Above all, it is a book about America, and in it, Americans will see themselves. Bill Bradley was a three-time basketball All-American at Princeton, an Olympic gold medalist, a Rhodes scholar, and a professional basketball player for ten years with the New York Knicks. Elected to the Senate from New Jersey in 1978. 1984, and 1990." Index. . INSCRIBED / SIGNED by the AUTHOR. First Edition (so stated), first issue. Hard Cover. Hardcover. Condition: Fine condition. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine dust jacket. First Edition. New York: Artisan, 1998. INSCRIBED / SIGNED by Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Bradley directly on the title page. A gorgeous copy. Fine condition in a Fine dust jacket (price is partially clipped). NO chips. NO tears. NO creases. Bright, shiny, clean and tight. Sharp corners. NOT a remainder. NO bookplate. Pages are fresh, crisp and unmarked. NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. First printing with complete number row (10 987654321) on the copyright page. Bound in the original black cloth, stamped in shiny copper on the spine. From the Dust Jacket: "Bill Bradley, U.S. Senator from New Jersey from 1979 to 1997 and a member of two championship New York Knicks teams, returns to the scene of his first career, and his first great passion, basketball. Things have changed since his championship days -- the shorts are longer and the salaries higher -- but what separates winners and losers remains very much the same: No collection of players, no matter how good, can win unless they form a team. And no team can succeed unless it shares common values, among them courage, discipline, resilience, respect, and an unmitigated passion for the game. In ten essays, filled with intensely personal observations and reflections, Bradley revisits the basketball court with the fire of the competitor and the eye of the writer, and explores these qualities in action: the dynamics of teammates on the court and off; the pure love of the game that leads to the unselfish pass or the screen away from the ball; the individual courage to risk the last-second shot, to face a hostile crowd, to say 'I blew it'; the responsibility to teammates, coaches, and fans to stay in shape, play hard, and honor the game. VALUES OF THE GAME is illustrated with more than one hundred twenty dramatic photographs of players, coaches, and classic games, culled from the NBA archives and the author's personal collection: from legends such as Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, and Bob Cousy, through the brilliant Magic Johnson/Larry Bird years to young stars such as Grant Hill and Glen Rice, and of course the greatest ever, Michael Jordan [In VALUES OF THE GAME] Bradley pulls back the curtain letting us in on basketball's secrets -- many of which, it turns out, extend to life beyond the hardwood court.". INSCRIBED / SIGNED by Bill Bradley. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine condition/Fine dust jacket. 160pp.

NO remainder mark. Pages are fresh and crisp. NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. Index. Bound in the original green boards with a blue cloth spine lettered in metallic green. From the Dust Jacket: "The world of sports seems entwined with lawsuits. This is so, Paul Weiler explains, because of two characteristics intrinsic to all competitive sports. First, sporting contests lose their drama if the competition becomes too lopsided. Second, the winning athletes and teams usually take the 'lion's share' of both fan attention and spending. So interest in second-rate teams and in second-rate leagues rapidly wanes, leaving one dominant league with monopoly power. The ideal of evenly balanced sporting contests is continually challenged by economic, social, and technological forces. Consequently, Weiler argues, the law is essential to level the playing field for players, owners, and ultimately fans and taxpayers. For example, he shows why players' use of performance-enhancing drugs, even legal ones, should be treated as a more serious offense than, say, use of cocaine. He also explains why proposals to break up dominant leagues and create new ones will not work, and thus why both union representation of players and legal protection for fans -- and taxpayers -- are necessary. Using well-known incidents -- and supplying little-known facts -- Weiler analyzes a wide array of moral and economic issues that arise in all competitive sports. He tells us, for example, how Commissioner Bud Selig should respond to Pete Rose's quest for admission to the Hall of Fame; what kind of settlement will allow baseball players and owners to avoid a replay of their past labor battles; and how our political leaders should address the recent wave of taxpayer-built stadiums.". From the rear cover: "In the ten years following the death of their son Trent, Curtis and Kathi Thompson have had the privilege of sharing their message of Trent's exemplary life with more than 26,000 High School students and youth groups from California to Utah. While speaking in the school environment, the Thompson's were limited in the sharing of their healing experiences. 'Not being able to share our faith in the Savior Jesus Christ on this journey has been very difficult. Many students would approach us after our presentation and share how they felt Trent's presence as we spoke. It wasn't just Trent's presence they were feeling' - Kathi Thompson. In their new book WORKING BOTH SIDES OF THE VEIL, the Thompson's open their hearts and share their very personal and special journey while enduring such a tragic loss of a loved one. Through their own words they share their inspiring message of faith, courage, and healing as the Lord revealed His purposes to their family. 'Our faith has never wavered and continues to grow, but the hole in our heart will never be filled until the day comes when we can again hold our son in our arms. That day will come, and awaits us on the other side of the veil.' - Curtis Thompson.". First Printing (so stated). Softcover. New condition. xvi, 197pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

From Wikipedia: "Kermit Alan Washington (born September 17, 1951) is an American former professional basketball player. Washington is best remembered for punching opposing player Rudy Tomjanovich during an on-court fight in 1977. Washington was not a highly coveted player coming out of high school. He averaged four points per game during his senior season at Coolidge Senior High School. He improved rapidly once at American University, and became one of only seven players in NCAA history to average 20 points and 20 rebounds throughout the course of his career. A big defensive forward, Washington was known for his ability to gather rebounds. He averaged 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in ten National Basketball Association (NBA) seasons and played in the All-Star Game once. Washington was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the fifth overall pick in the 1973 NBA draft. He played sparingly his first three seasons, and sought the help of retired basketball coach Pete Newell before his fourth season. Under Newell's tutelage, Washington's game rapidly improved and he became a starter for several teams. He played for the Lakers, Boston Celtics, San Diego Clippers, Portland Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors. Since retiring, Washington has run restaurants and is a founder and operator of a number of charitable organizations. He ran a restaurant in the Portland metropolitan just north of Portland in Vancouver, Washington with former Trail Blazer Kevin Duckworth, called "Le Slam." . He has also served in a coaching role with Stanford University, and worked at Pete Newell's "Big Man Camp" for 15 years. In 1995, he founded The 6th Man Foundation, otherwise known as Project Contact Africa. In August 1994, Washington accompanied a team of doctors and nurses on a humanitarian mission to Goma, Zaire, working in a refugee camp for people fleeing the Rwandan Civil War." From the publisher: "Who would imagine how meeting a stranger would lead to the writing of this book. Walking the scenic hills in Palos Verdes Estates, California, as a form of daily exercise, Kermit met and began a conversation with Eddie Jordan. Their friendship developed into the idea to record Kermit's numerous adventures in Africa and his life. Some information included has been publicly noted and is well-known. However, additional accounts add details and more accurately explain challenges and obstacles Kermit had to overcome. This book was written to complete the story of how overcoming numerous challenges Kermit's positive actions established and maintains the Ray of Hope Clinic and Community Center in Africa began and its positive impact on the lives of others.". From the dust jacket: "The 2007-2008 Kansas Jayhawks capped off one of the program's most storied seasons by winning its fifth national championship, and first in 20 years. The Jayhawks success in 2007-2008 has been credited to total team effort and the inspiring leadership of head coach Bill Self. During his relatively short head coaching career, Self has established himself as one of college basketball's best by leading Oral Roberts to new frontiers, guiding Tulsa to its best season in school history, turning Illinois into a Big Ten powerhouse and now taking Kansas from a perennially great program to the best in the nation. In Bill Self's first authorized book: BILL SELF: AT HOME IN THE PHOG, Self and those who know him best offer an inside look at his journey into becoming one of the game's most respected and most sought-after coaches. Self tells how he achieved his dream of not only becoming a head coach, but also how he realized the pinnacle - leading the Jayhawks to a national title. He shares minute-by-minute details of the contest that sent KU to the national title game". Signed by Bill Self. First Printing of the First Edition. Hardcover.
