The first part of the book, containing some twenty chapters, deals with such topics as heather-culture, grouse disease, rent of shooting, driving, deer-stalking, etc.; the second consists of a series of letters (supposedly addressed to the author by the tenant of a highland shooting lodge) full of local gossip. Octavo: 248 p. with four plates and numerous period advertisements at the front and rear. Original burgundy cloth binding, with gilt and black titles. "Rod and Gun" is underlined in the introduction, with an ink bookseller's stamp to the half-title. Some mild foxing and toning to the contents and along the edges. The top edge is dust stained. Slight bowing to the front board. The spine is a bit faded, with some minor bumping to corners and tips; else about very good.
