In one-half brown morocco over marbled paper bindings, with gilt stamping, five raised bands, marbled endpapers, and a ribbon marker. The original wrappers are bound in. Original burgundy cloth binding, with gilt stamping. Dust staining to the top edge and fore-edge, the spine, and the extremities of the rear board. The front joint is starting, with some bumping and wear to the corners and tips. Sir James George Frazer's copy, with his signature to the title page. Associated with Trinity College most of his life, Frazer (1854-1941) is best known for The Golden Bough (1911-15), his study of ancient cults, rites, and myths, including their parallels in early Christianity. The signature of classicist J.C. Lawson appears below Frazer's, and another scholar's ownership inscription appears on the front pastedown.

Dedicated to William, Duke of Cumberland, the third son of King George II, these moralizing tales are often satiric in tone and were originally composed to educate and amuse the six year old prince. A particular favorite is "The Elephant and the Bookseller" (Fable 10). 12mo: xii, 72, 249, [2] p. with engraved decorations throughout. In a later one-quarter brown calf over marbled paper binding, with gilt stamping and five raised bands. Light toning to the contents, with a period ink ownership signature to the top edge of the title page; otherwise very good.

In a period one-half brown calf over marbled paper binding, with a burgundy calf spine label, decorative gilt stamping, and brown endpapers. Minor ink staining to the extremities of the last few leaves, not affecting the text, with a small chip to the bottom corner of the final leaf. A bit of rubbing to the marbled paper; otherwise very good.
