Mount Marathon blog: 26-year-old Alaskan wins women’s crown
2:55 p.m. - Anchorage mountain runner takes women’s title
One year after a mother in her 40s claimed the women’s title, the 2024 Mount Marathon title went to a 26-year-old.
Klaire Rhodes, of Anchorage, won the women’s Mount Marathon, which featured several hundred runners. The professional North Face runner was a blur on her roughly 3,000-foot descent of Mount Marathon and crossed the finish line in 49 minutes, 49 seconds, about 30 seconds ahead of fellow Alaskan Kendall Kramer.
Rhodes trailed Kramer briefly near the turnaround point, but the first-time champion overtook Kramer on the downhill.
“I was looking behind me scared the whole time,” Rhodes said in a post-race interview.
