ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - While anyone who conquers Mount Marathon — the holiday run up and down a 3,000-foot tall rock outside of Seward — could be considered a champion, there are four winners of the 2023 race returning to defend their respective titles on Thursday.

The “Marvelous Marvins,” the mother-son duo of Kristy and Coby, aim to repeat as the respective women’s and junior boy’s champions, while past champions David Norris and Max King go toe-to-toe for the men’s title.

Tania Boonstra is also returning as the defending Junior Girl’s Champion.

The longest-running mountain run in North America started with the juniors taking the course at 9 a.m. Thursday. The first men depart from the starting line at 11 a.m. before the women take the course at 2 p.m.
