Chills (The Distinguished Rogues Book 1) Kindle Edition

Introducing Chills, the first installment of the Distinguished Rogues series. USA Today Bestselling Regency Romance Author, Heather Boyd, brings readers a lively tale of reckless spending, fraudulent correspondence, and the humorous twists and turns of falling for the right rogue…

London, 1813

Jack, Marquess of Ettington, is at his wits’ end dealing with his twin sister’s distress. Under her name, he’s summoned Constance Grange, his vexing former ward, to London to act as his sister’s companion for the season. Although Pixie’s debt-ridden state comes as a complete surprise, what disturbs him more is his sister’s plan to find her a wealthy husband to pay off her overwhelming debts. And—despite his availability, wealth and title—he’s shocked to be overlooked for the position of Pixie’s husband.

With a nickname like Pixie, Constance Grange should be used to disasters, but debt collectors pounding on the Marquess of Ettington’s door demanding payment is beyond mortifying. Given the precarious state of her finances and the previously unknown loss of her family estate, her choices are either incarceration in debtors’ prison or turning fortune hunter to secure a wealthy husband. Yet the man who comes to her rescue more times than she cares to think about is unavailable, betrothed, and her former guardian Jack—the cold-hearted marquess.

A regency historical romance novel.

This was by far one of the best books of historical I have the plessure of reading. Buy it you wont be sorry.

This is the story of Jack and Constance. The plot is set on London 1813, where Constance is been summoned by Jack passing as his sister Virginia, in truth Jack has been corresponding with Constance for several years passing as Virgina his twin and who has not been herself since her wedding with Lord Orkney. Now a widow Virgina is set to go back to society and summoned her friend Constance to serve as a companion for the season.
In truth Jack summoned Constance not just for his sister sake but because secretly he has a tendre for Constance since she was his ward he is the one that give her the nickname of Pixie but he is unable to express his feeling for Constance and feels hurt after his sister overlooked him for the position of Pixie's husband once his sister and Pixie deside to find her a husband after the visit of her solicitor informing her of the amount of debt her mother has left her and the only choices are either icarceration in debtors' prison or securing a wealthy husband.
In conclusion This is a good plot, with good main characters, suported second characters, and villains. For once the hero didn't just felt in love right away but has known the heroine since she was a teen, and secretly she has an admiration for Jack and then realizes that she has been in love with him as well.
The developement of the characters is a good one bringing a great sexual attraccion between the hero and heroine. The second characters are also great although I would have wished for Virgina and Bernard to have a story of their own, but it was a plus to have them as a quick story in this novel. It is a good book with white romance if you are looking for lots of sex scenes this is not the book for you as it only has one sex scene but if you are looking for a good story who can make you cry, laugh and feel sorry with the characters then this is the book for you.

But the story did drag many times. Reading the comments, I expected there to be more passion early on. Imagine my surprise when there was naught but kissing and petting for well past half the book (for the main hero and heroine anyway). I really wish those who like “clean” romances would not read and review those described as steamy.

The hero and heroine worked well as the frenemies to lovers pair. I liked them both. However, a little bit of communication on the heroine’s part at some point would have cleared things up much earlier. All she had to say was, “Look you horse’s arse, I enjoy these kisses, but you have a bloody betrothed, so leave me alone to find a husband.” And he would have been, “huh?” And they would have started their HEA sooner.

The author threw in another romance - which was also quite interesting, maybe more so than the main romance - regarding the best friend and the damaged sister. But since it was secondary, it wasn’t completely developed, so it didn’t really make up for the drag caused by the weak plot line of the not-really betrothed keeping the heroine from putting our hero on her marriage list and the hero being miffed by the slight.

What could have worked is a real betrothal that had to be broken or the original not-betrothal that was revealed earlier with the former beau of the heroine then coming in to muck things up more than just being a slight nuisance near the end. Speaking of which, I liked the hero’s butler. He’s a cheeky fellow. It’s not often you see the butler plant a facer. And what about the odious Miss Scaling and her family? They bought up the heroine’s family debt. Why? I thought they were going to use it to bribe the hero into offering for the odious Miss Scaling.

Still, this was well written and had interesting characters. The plot had promise. I’m looking forward to reading the next book. I will be expecting more as it’s not free or part of KU.

I absolutely enjoyed this story. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and Heather Boyd gave us two wonderful sparring couples.

Constance (Pixie) and Jack... Childhood nemesis. These two definitely kept me entertained. I loved all the sexual tension between these two. And in between their arguments, they were finding ways to touch each other (linking hands in the theatre, stolen moments in a closet while avoiding a marriage-minded Miss after Jack, and midnight snuggling). i thoroughly enjoyed their road to HEA.

Secondary characters, Virginia and Bernard (Hallam), stole the show for me tho. I wish they had their own book. My heart broke for Virginia and what she went through. And that Bernard was there and true to Virginia every step of the way (even when she was doing everything to convince herself that she hated him with a passion)... made him such an amazing guy. He is totally going on my “All Time Fave Heroes” List. My toes curled when these two finally got together. And their end scene was freaken hot!!

I love Heather Boyd and she is forever on my keeper shelf. I can’t wait to read this entire series... and really looking forward to Daventry’s story.

MF, no cheating/sharing, low heat, HEA
I enjoyed the story. The H took a long time to realize he was attracted to the h, then he took an equally long time to admit he had developed feelings for her, and finally he took a long time deciding if he wanted to marry her or not. The h was a kick, but it was more than half the book before she realized she had feelings for the H, that she couldn't act on for a variety of reasons. I did like the inclusion of the side romance between the H's sister and one of his friends (who was a very intriguing character I would have liked to read more of him) and heck, they had relations before the H & h!
