I like the narrative of the text. The background and biographies of the three family artists is well presented. The illustrations are just a taste of what these Wyeth's accomplished. They had a strong impact on America's Art scene and on its artists. I bought a used edition because that is what I can afford. Price and shipping were reasonable. I'm a fan of the Wyeth's and was also influenced by their art and accomplishments. I bought this book to read and study. With the resources of the Internet, I can explore a lot of the topics covered in it in more depth. Of the three, Andrew Wyeth influenced my vision of nature. His paintings seem to have a natural sense about them.

Really nice, used book. Great price.

Really great reading and bio of all three artists. Lots of great colour photographs of the men, and their work!

Putting the 3 generations of Wyeths, their lives and their art, into one voume is very rewarding. Although the book was published 30 years ago, well before the death of Andrew Wyeth, the book is still relevant. The good reproductions of their paintings give readers a comprehensive view of what is distinctive and valuable in the art of all three Wyeths.

Love this book! My only complaint is the soft cover was already dinged up a bit.

Contains many color photos of the art of all three artists (just what I like in a book about painters; a little bit about the artist and lots of good quality color photos of the art; the art is the thing, for me.) Particularly good is the essay by Andrew on his father's art and life. The only flaw in the book is the essay (of sorts) by Lincoln Kirstein on James Wyeth. Abstract writing by a writer who is in love with his own writing, stringing words together, and conveying nothing. His part is the only reason that the book did not get 5 stars. As a big fan of N.C. Wyeth's Western art I was glad to see several of his Western paintings included. When put back to back, truly an amazing legacy of talent. Andrew was 70 when the book was written and now little Jamie of the Coon Skin Cap will be 70 in two days (July 6, 2016). Time flies.

I enjoyed the quality of the photography illustrating the three generations of Wyeth creativity, their individual philosophies and experiences that shaped their personal visual interests, and the visions that each artist explored as their personal styles evolved. This is a book that is well worth having and enjoying.

An American Vision: Three Generations of Wyeth Art; N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, James Wyeth is a fantastic addition to my library! I have always been fascinated by the Wyeth family's paintings and if you are too, then this would be a great book for you to have. It is a large format book and the paintings are reprinted on good paper. If you love the Wyeth's works and want to have a great way to look at them, then you should get a copy of this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality reproductions of Wyeth paintings -covering N.C.and Andrew and James.

I bought this book after reading David Michaelis' excellent biography of N.C.Wyeth. Like many people, I suspect, his dramatic, frequently reproduced illustrations had become familiar to me in childhood. (This was long before I even understood that these were imaginative works rather than factual depictions.)
Since this was published to coincide with an international exhibition in 1987/8 the quality of the reproductions are excellent - unlike those contained in the Dover "N.C.Wyeth" which are muddy and disappointing. It also covers the work of his youngest son and grandson and these are also well reproduced. There are also some interesting details on the media and techniques used by each which I found enlightening.
The title is somewhat misleading though, since the book does not cover the work of Andrew's siblings Carolyn or Henriette, who were also painters in their own right, and are only fleetingly referred to in the text. The written content is less satisfactory than the pictures as it unquestionly accepts chunks of Wyeth mythology and either remains silent on, or skates around some of the less laudable aspects of the subjects lives. Anyone wanting to explore the real Wyeth family history should be advised to read further and watch some of the excellent documentaries that are available online.
I also found it profoundly annoying that no one bothered to mention the common illustrator's practice - used by N.C.Wyeth and Norman Rockwell amongst many others - that fast, roughly executed work painted on canvases 4' x 3' appears tight and finely detailed when reduced to its printed size of 8 x 6 inches.
This said, this book is a good way of examining the technique and palette of the best known three of the Wyeth painters and is a reasonably priced way of obtaining good reproductions of their work.

5.0 out of 5 stars American Vision: Three Generations of Wyeth Art

If, like me, you're interested in the work of Andrew Wyeth, this book is a real bonus. First, because it shows a lot of Wyeth's work in colour, and second because the quality of reproduction is very high. A third advantage is that it places Andrew's work in the context of his father's, and then his son's, work, all of which are related to one another in fascinating ways. This second-hand copy was in excellent condition, the price was superb value, and delivery was fast. All in all, a great deal.

Awesome book with amazing photos of some lovely art work. Three generations of artists in the same family brought to my attention by an excellent documentary by Michael Palin.
