Since this was published to coincide with an international exhibition in 1987/8 the quality of the reproductions are excellent - unlike those contained in the Dover "N.C.Wyeth" which are muddy and disappointing. It also covers the work of his youngest son and grandson and these are also well reproduced. There are also some interesting details on the media and techniques used by each which I found enlightening.
The title is somewhat misleading though, since the book does not cover the work of Andrew's siblings Carolyn or Henriette, who were also painters in their own right, and are only fleetingly referred to in the text. The written content is less satisfactory than the pictures as it unquestionly accepts chunks of Wyeth mythology and either remains silent on, or skates around some of the less laudable aspects of the subjects lives. Anyone wanting to explore the real Wyeth family history should be advised to read further and watch some of the excellent documentaries that are available online.
I also found it profoundly annoying that no one bothered to mention the common illustrator's practice - used by N.C.Wyeth and Norman Rockwell amongst many others - that fast, roughly executed work painted on canvases 4' x 3' appears tight and finely detailed when reduced to its printed size of 8 x 6 inches.
This said, this book is a good way of examining the technique and palette of the best known three of the Wyeth painters and is a reasonably priced way of obtaining good reproductions of their work.
