In the near future, when America has become a police state, 100 boys are selected to enter an annual contest where the winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life. Good story, well read, voice edit cuts out
Évalué le: 2024-03-01
enjoyable experience overall, but the way the audio is put together, a lot of sentences are cut mid word. Barely noticed at first, but it happens a few times per chapter and on a few I thought my phone died.

Histoire
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Romance should be added to the description. Good story and idea, but in my opinion a lot of time and words are wasted on fan fic romance

Histoire
When Penny Dahl calls the Finders Keepers detective agency hoping for help locating her missing daughter, Holly is reluctant to accept the case. Her partner has Covid. Her mother has just died. And Holly is meant to be on leave. But something in Penny Dahl’s desperate voice makes it impossible for Holly to turn her down. Mere blocks from where Bonnie Dahl disappeared live Professors Rodney and Emily Harris. They are the picture of bourgeois respectability: married octogenarians, devoted to each other, and semi-retired lifelong academics. But they are harboring an unholy secret in the basement.

Probably SK's worst book...

Very weak excuse to make his personal beliefs and politics known. Can't get into the story, because it just seems like the author is on a soapbox banging pots and pans together, preaching his morals.

In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Enjoyed every minute of this book, the ups and downs. Having it narrated by Dave himself turned it from a must read to easily the best audiobook I have ever heard. Love ya Dave

I know of the author from Sandman and his other comic books, and was super happy to learn he wrote books like this.
The narration was perfect and very well done.
The book itself was a great listen and I heavily enjoyed it. It is up there in my list of favorite books for sure. Mostly because it was something fresh and new for me.

Histoire
As the story opens, Snowman is sleeping in a tree, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death. How did everything fall apart so quickly? Why is he left with nothing but his haunting memories? Alone except for the green-eyed Children of Crake, he explores the answers to these questions in the double journey he takes - into his own past, and back to Crake's high-tech bubble-dome, where the Paradice Project unfolded and the world came to grief.
